While Meenakshi’s loss came as a heart-break for the Indian contingent, Monika and Harshita lifted their spirits with clinical performances to clinch the bronze medals. Monika defeated Hanbit Lee of South Korea 9-0 to win the bronze in women’s 65kg category, while Harshita got the better of Sevinchoy Polvonova 5-0 in the women’s 72kg bronze medal bout. World Boxing looks at Artificial Intelligence to review bouts, fix scoring system | Sport-others News

World Boxing is ‘evaluating’ the possibility of using Artificial Intelligence (AI) for reviewing bouts, the organisation’s outgoing president Boris van der Vorst claimed. The World Boxing chief acknowledged that tackling the challenges posed by the sport’s controversial scoring system will be one of the main ‘pain points’ for the nascent organisation that will be conducting the sport at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. “The main challenge is that the hand of the best boxer is raised at the end of every bout. The integrity of the competition remains the main challenge for a sport that has a jury involved in it,” Van der Vorst told the reporters on the sidelines of the ongoing World Boxing Cup Finals. Story continues below this ad Speaking about the use of AI, he added: “We are exploring modern technology like AI to review the bouts so that we can restore the trust of the fans and boxers into the system. It’s a work in progress right now and what I can say is that we are evaluating it at …

Jake Paul-Mike Tyson and other influencer bouts compromised safety, says World Boxing chief | Sport-others News

World Boxing (WB) President Boris van der Vorst on Monday expressed concern over pugilists’ safety being compromised in the recent surge of influencer boxing events and stressed on the need for the use of protective gear in these bouts. Van Der Vorst’s comments gain significance in the light of the fight between YouTube influencer Jake Paul and former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, which went ahead last November after being postponed due to the 58-year-old boxing legend suffering an ulcer ailment. Admitting that “even my daughters were hooked to the event,” and he himself had conducted a much smaller influencer boxing event in the Netherlands, Van Der Vorst indicated that not all precautions are taken over such high-profile bouts. Story continues below this ad “Such fights are nice for newer audiences but the safety of the boxers is a big question. The event I sanctioned in the Netherlands had thicker gloves with head guards in order to guarantee a safe outcome,” Vorst told The Indian Express. World Boxing was recently given provisional status by the …

Top-5 Combat Sport bouts featuring Indians in 2024

India has a rich history in combat sports like boxing and wrestling, having won multiple medals in these disciplines at both the Olympic Games and World Championships. Life in an IIT | My journey from frequent bouts of self-doubt and frustration to IIT BHU | Education News

The road to IIT is a journey like no other – one filled with challenges, sacrifices, and moments of triumph. My story began at the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in my hometown Jamedaruputtuga, in the Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh, where I completed my education up to Class 10. With dreams of cracking JEE and securing a future at one of India’s premier institutes, I appeared for the Dakshana entrance test and was selected for their coaching program in Hyderabad. This became the stepping stone for my JEE preparation during Classes 11 and 12. However, the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic turned everything upside down. What was once an intense, structured study routine transitioned to an online format, bringing new challenges. Struggling to adjust to online learning, I faced long hours of self-study and frequent bouts of self-doubt and frustration. Yet, in the midst of all this, my parents remained my constant source of strength. After months of dedication and relentless effort, I finally achieved my dream – I secured a seat in the mathematics and …
