Injuries can’t stop me: Boxer Arundhati Choudhary

While thousands of students move to Kota, Rajasthan, chasing engineering dreams, the Kota-born Arundhati Choudhary chose a different path: A boxing ring. The city renowned for academic excellence is now celebrating a star in sports as Choudhary, one of the city’s own, prepares for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. “I’m not thinking about anything else. I just want to win a medal at the Commonwealth Games,” Choudhary told The Bridge on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Games send-off ceremony in New Delhi. Choudhary, an Asian champion, was also one of the first Indian female athletes to be part of the Services Program and trained under the Army Sports Institute in Pune. “Whenever I wear the Services kit, only one thing always comes to mind: if a soldier has the courage to go to the border and face bullets, we only have to throw punches,” she said. She started her sporting career as a basketball player, being one of the tallest girls in her class, before switching to boxing after the support from her family. …

Boxer Meenakshi Hooda on her move to 51kg

Meenakshi Hooda was only 12 when she stepped into a boxing ring for the first time. Over the years, she has steadily turned her dreams into reality, climbing the ranks to become a world champion and recently extended her reign as World No. 1 in the 48kg category. But the World Championship title she won last year remains the defining moment of her journey that once began in a small village boxing centre. “Becoming a world champion is everyone’s dream, and it was my dream too. And when I did become one and stood on the podium, the Indian flag was at the top. That was the proudest moment of my life,” Meenakshi told The Bridge. The world champion has trained under Vijay Hooda for the last 12 years, believes coaches are the ones who understand athletes better than their own families. “My family doesn’t know much about boxing. So sometimes my parents and family only see that I didn’t win a medal. But my coach knows how much I have trained. He knows how …

MMA fighter killed in bear attack in Canada

The Indian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter Hrishikesh Koloth was killed in a rare bear attack early this month in Canada. Hrishikesh was working at a remote uranium exploration site in northern Saskatchewan on May 8 when the incident took place. The 27-year-old from Kerala had relocated to Canada three years ago to live with his older brother, Arjun, in Penticton, British Columbia. He was employed as a contract technician at the Zoo Bay property operated by Vancouver-based UraniumX Discovery Corp, near Nordbye Lake, approximately 850 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon. Following the attack, a civilian worker on the site shot and killed the bear. Koloth was also a passionate boxer and had been actively training for over a decade with dreams of making it to the UFC. His untimely death cut short both his professional aspirations and his promising athletic journey. “That was his dream. That’s why he came here. He wanted to fight in the UFC,” Arjun was quoted as saying by CBC. UraniumX Discovery Corp CEO Esen Boldkhuu said in a statement, “We …

How Indian boxer Preeti stunned Paris Olympics medallist to enter Asian Championship final | Sport-others News

3 min readApr 6, 2026 10:50 PM IST For many of the members of the Indian women’s boxing team, the later rounds of the Asian Boxing Championships were going to be an acid test of sorts – one that they hadn’t faced since the Paris Olympics came to a close. Preeti Sai Pawar had to go up against Paris Olympics bronze medallist Aeji Im of South Korea. Nikhat Zareen was set to take on China’s Wu Yu, a boxer who had beaten her in the Paris Olympics Round-of-16 on the way a maiden Olympic gold and Lovlina Borgohain, India’s only Olympic medallist in the current squad, was up against Aziza Zokirova, a 70kg World Championship bronze medallist from Uzbekistan, who had recently made the switch to the 75kg category. The recent case in women’s boxing has veered towards younger upcoming Indians taking it to some of the best in the world, whereas the tried and tested from the country have not been able to conjure the performances that has earned them their spot in the …

How a boxer gave chakma to a red-hot Virat Kohli in 2016 IPL final to help Sunrisers Hyderabad pull off a heist | Cricket News

Years later, Barinder Sran could recall the biggest moment of his IPL career with a glee: The Virat Kohi wicket in the 2016 final in front of a loud Chinnaswamy Stadium crowd. “Unko chakma dene ke liye slower ball dali thi! (I bowled a slower ball to deceive him!),” he recounts, laughing. But in that precise moment, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler could feel his nerves fray, his heart pound. His first two overs had cost 29 runs. Kohli smoked his second ball of the third over for a gorgeous six over extra cover. Royal Challengers Bengaluru were strolling at 140 for 1 in 13 overs, chasing 208. The knock was supposed to be the pinnacle of Kohli’s most prolific season (973 runs). Then, the left-arm seamer gathered his wits. A plan took birth. “We knew that Virat would step out and hit if you keep mid-off up. He stepped out to the first ball of the third over and hit over cover. That is what we planned,” Sran tells The Indian Express. He sent the …
