The organ retrieval was carried out at the Trauma and Emergency Care Centre (TECC) on the State-run Victoria Hospital campus, attached to the Bengaluru Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI). Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said in the Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that Gujarat received a total of 856 organs in the last two years from brain-dead donors. A 281-km interstate green corridor was set up to transport the liver from a private hospital in Surat to Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital in Mumbai, where the liver transplant was performed. The liver was speedily transported in 4 hours 20 minutes, with the cooperation of the police authorities in Gujarat and Maharashtra. The Mumbai police and traffic authorities were instrumental in facilitating the rapid transportation of an organ through busy city streets.
