The Himachal Pradesh High Court, while granting bail to suspended Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Pankaj Sharma — the only accused arrested by the CBI in connection with death of Vimal Negi, a former chief engineer of state power corporation — observed that chances of commencement and conclusion of trial against him did not appear very bright. “The chances of commencement and conclusion of trial against the applicant (Sharma) are not so bright in the future. As such, no useful purpose would be served by keeping the applicant in judicial custody for an indefinite period,” observed Justice Virender Singh while granting regular bail to Sharma on Friday.
