Prime Minister Narendra Modi Monday hailed lawyer Chettur Sankaran Nair who took the then British government to court over the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. Addressing a gathering in Yamunanagar, Modi said Sunday (April 13) marked the 106th anniversary of the massacre. He said that in addition to those who died due to the cruelty of the British, there was one more aspect, which was pushed into the darkness. “This aspect relates to the spirit of humanity and standing with the country. The name of that spirit is Sankaran Nair… He was a renowned lawyer and in those days, he held a very big post. He could have enjoyed all the luxuries, but inspired by Jallianwala Bagh, he raised his voice against British atrocities. He was kicked out of his post,” said Modi.
