The Budget does not mention how to fill the gap. As is the practice of the TDP, the number of beneficiaries will be condensed,” he said, adding, “This shows the …

Budget aims to accelerate growth, boost pvt sector investments, says FM Nirmala Sitharaman | India News

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday dismissed the Opposition’s claims of the Union Budget favouring only NDA-ruled states as “unfounded”. Replying to the debate on the budget in Rajya Sabha, the minister said the budget came at a time when “external challenges” were severe, talk of globalisation was accompanied by “fragmentation in the world”, and “free market” beliefs accompanied increasing tariff barriers. Garib (poor), youth, annadata (farmers) and naari (women) were four crucial groups taken into consideration while drafting the budget, Sitharaman said. Story continues below this ad She said the government has kept the goals of accelerating growth and encouraging private investment. Sitharaman also countered the Opposition’s charge that the budget focused only on boosting consumption and neglected capital expenditure. Effective capex, said the minister, includes core capital outlays in the budget and grants-in-aid for the creation of capital assets in the states. “So, though grants-in-aid are accounted as revenue expenditure in the books of the Union government, they go to the states to create capital expenditure. So, they are effectively, eventually, only capital …

A Budget That Understands Balance

A Budget That Understands Balance

The middle class has long been seeking income tax relief. Until now, tax benefits were primarily targeted at the lower segments of the income pyramid, while those in the middle and upper tiers of the middle class remained outside the scope of any significant relief. In fact, their tax burden increased due to changes in the taxation of dividends, capital gains on equity, debt income, and more. Against this backdrop, the Union Budget provides significant relief by revamping the new tax structure, leading to an estimated revenue foregone of ₹1 lakh crore. This stands out as a major highlight of the Budget. Inflation has been persistently high, eroding household purchasing power. This concern has frequently been raised by FMCG companies when engaging with investors. The Budget effectively provides individuals with additional financial space, and the magnitude of tax relief is large enough to stimulate a surge in consumption. Since these tax rates are expected to remain in place for some time, the resulting sustained increase in spending is positive news for consumer goods companies. Working …

Shark Tank’s Anupam Mittal On Budget

New Delhi: People Group and Shaadi.com founder Anupam Mittal praised the Union Budget’s provision to not tax salaried individuals earning up to Rs 12.75 lakh, calling it a “systemic correction”. The Shark Tank India investor said previous Budgets reduced middle class professionals to a “punching bag”, where individuals were “taxed at every turn, squeezed for every rupee, while the ultra-rich found loopholes and businesses got tax breaks”. In her Union Budget speech on Saturday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said no income tax payable up to Rs 12 lakh, i.e., up to Rs 12.75 lakh including standard deductions – under the new regime. Ms Sitharaman said this will “substantially reduce tax burden on middle class and leave more money in their hands”. It will also boost household consumption, savings, and investment, she said. Echoing the Union minister’s statement, Mr Mittal said history is witness that thriving middle classes, not over-burdened ones, build strong economies. “You don’t build an economy by making people feel gareeb (poor). You build it by making them wealthier,” he wrote. He cited …

How To Get Private Sector To Invest In Capex? Nirmala Sitharaman Answers

The centre is creating an ecosystem for domestic and foreign investment, underscored Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, urging the private sector to reciprocate. The Minister added that banks and companies are in good health, suggesting the time is right for private investment. The Economic Survey, a state of the economy report, has stressed that the Union government’s efforts would need to be supplemented with “wholehearted acceptance” of the need for public-private partnerships in infrastructure across the country. A capital expenditure, or capex, is used to set up long-term physical or fixed assets. In 2024-25, the central government kept the capital expenditure outlay at Rs 11.11 lakh crore. It was a 11.11 per cent raise in capex year-on-year. Building infrastructure – physical, digital and social – has been a central focus area for the government in the last five years. This has had various dimensions – increase in public spending on infrastructure, creation of institutions to de-bottleneck approvals and execution and innovative modes of resource mobilisation. “We are creating an ecosystem to increase the role of the …

‘Declare Kerala Backward If You Want Funds’: Row Over Minister’s Remark

New Delhi: Amid the Opposition’s charge that Budget 2025 had ignored Kerala, Union Minister George Kurian has said the southern state must declare that it is backward if it wants more funds from the Centre. The remark has intensified the row and the ruling Left has said the minister’s statement reflects the Centre’s “anti-Kerala” stand. Shortly after Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered the Budget speech in Lok Sabha, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said it was a disappointing budget for the state. He said the Centre had ignored their request for funds to rebuild Wayanad, where landslides in July claimed more than 400 lives. The Budget also ignored the Vizhinjam Port in Kerala. “We had requested a special package for Rs 24,000 crore besides a special Wayanad landslide package. Considering the national importance of the Vizhinjam Port, we had requested support for it too. But none of these have been considered,” he said. “Kerala is being penalised for its gains in the education and other sectors. It is said that our state does not need …

PM Plays Up Budget Tax Breather At Delhi Poll Rally

New Delhi: As campaigning for the February 5 election in Delhi enters its last leg, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today pointed to Budget 2025 and played up the proposals for Bihar and the income tax relief to the middle class. Addressing a rally in south Delhi’s RK Puram, the Prime Minister said this Budget was the people’s Budget and represents the hopes and aspirations of the middle class. “The country is growing economically. In earlier times, corruption would have eaten up the people and your hard-earned money would have been taken away. BJP’s honest governance has worked for the welfare of every section – be it the poor, the middle class, people in rural areas, or urban voters.” “The entire middle class is saying this budget is a middle-class-friendly Budget. Every family is happy and hopeful. During Nehru’s time, if you were earning Rs 12 lakh, you would have to pay 1/4th of your salary as tax. If this were Indira Gandhi’s time, you would have to pay Rs 10 lakh tax on Rs 12 …
