‘Will I be able to act in films anymore?’: Mammootty burst into tears after bike accident | Malayalam News

4 min readKochiMay 28, 2026 08:19 PM IST Besides being hailed for his acting talents, Mammootty is also often praised for his good looks, having kept his physique well-maintained even in his mid-70s. Over the decades, he has been seen by the masses as the poster boy of Malayali masculinity, marked by a strong build, a deep and thumping voice, and captivating mannerisms. Since he takes extremely good care of his body, it’s only natural that Mammootty felt devastated when he met with an accident, wondering if it meant the end of his movie career, too. His frequent co-star and friend Mukesh once revealed the incident while speaking at a programme organised by Kairali TV. Recounting that he and Mammootty fell off a bike while travelling together, he said that the megastar burst into tears immediately upon seeing a wound on his face. ‘Ranjini Haridas initially laughed but later burst into tears backstage,’ Alleppey Ashraf recalls Jagathy Sreekumar’s insult | Malayalam News

5 min readKochiApr 13, 2026 10:29 PM IST Renowned for revolutionising Malayalam television anchoring by bringing authenticity, originality, and identity to it, Ranjini Haridas has often been cited by several of her successors as an inspiration. Although many have tried to fill her shoes over the years, Ranjini remains a league apart. After grabbing attention by anchoring the music reality competition Star Singer, she quickly made a place for herself in the hearts of Malayalees with her fearless presentation, ease in interacting with everyone, polished English, and anglicised Malayalam. While she garnered a large section of the audience as fans, some were not content with her anchoring, as it openly defied the conventions and behavioural patterns mandated by a patriarchal mindset. Once, she was even publicly insulted by actor Jagathy Sreekumar, who made sharp criticisms about the way she hosted shows and shared her opinions on performances. Although his comments, made in front of a live audience over a decade and a half ago, drew laughter at the time, they have since been widely criticised …

Ravindra Jadeja’s four-wicket burst gives hosts slight edge after chaotic day at Eden Gardens

Ravindra Jadeja’s four-wicket burst gives hosts slight edge after chaotic day at Eden Gardens

The evening was balmy, even mildly chilly. But the audience had disposed of their jumpers and windbreakers long ago; a sweaty suspense had gripped them in the intense see-sawing game, which is replete with possibilities and could potentially experience another wild twist on Sunday. The day might not have unfolded as they wished. When they started from their homes to the Eden pilgrimage, navigating chaotic traffic, they would have wished for a Rishabh Pant masterpiece or a Shubman Gill masterclass. But it turned out to be a day for the sensationalists. A cluster of wickets, of suboptimal theatrics, the red ball swaying erratically like a punch-drunk alcoholic, and a few lusty blows in between to keep the match on a knife-edge. The hosts, after eking out a 30-run lead, valuable in the context of the low-scoring affair, and then twisting the knife on South Africa, reeling on the mat at 93 for 7, would feel a sense of ascendancy. But the stage is no stranger to miracles and fairy tales. Story continues below this ad …
