NCP confident Sunetra Pawar will Baramati bypoll by over 2 lakh votes, surpassing Ajit Pawar’s record | Pune News

As the counting of votes for the Baramati Assembly bypoll is scheduled for May 4, the Nationalist Congress Party is confident that its candidate, Sunetra Pawar, will win by over 2 lakh votes—a victory margin the state has not seen yet. The NCP is also confident that Sunetra Pawar will break her husband’s record margin of victory of 1.65 lakh votes, which he achieved in the 2019 Assembly polls. ”We are fully confident that Sunetra Pawar will win by a margin of over 2 lakh votes. And in the process, she will break Ajit Pawar’s record margin of victory,” NCP state president Sunil Tatkare told The Indian Express on Sunday. Sunetra Pawar’s win is a foregone conclusion. ”There are 22 independent candidates in the fray. Hardly anyone was seen campaigning. We believe they will collectively get no more than 5,000-10,000 votes. And there Sunetra Vahani is all set for a record victory,” said a close associate of Pawar. A huge turnout was expected during last month’s voting as a tribute to Ajit Pawar, who died …

BJP warns Congress over contesting Baramati bypoll against Sunetra Pawar

Maharashtra BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Thursday claimed that it will lead to Congress` downfall if it does not allow Sunetra Pawar to win the Baramati Assembly by-election unopposed, reported the PTI. He added that people in Baramati and across Maharashtra favour an uncontested victory for Sunetra Pawar. The by-election, scheduled for April 23, was necessitated by the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28 in Baramati. Following his passing, his wife Sunetra Pawar assumed the role of NCP president. A supporter holds a portrait of former Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar during an event earlier this week. (PTI) Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal said the party had initially gone ahead with its campaign after fielding Akash More for the Baramati bypoll, but decided to withdraw following sustained outreach from NCP leaders. “We discussed internally and were of the view that our decision was correct but considering the tradition of Maharashtra and the communication made, the party decided to withdraw our candidate Akash More from Baramati bypolls,” Sapkal said. “Ajit Pawar’s death was certainly unfortunate. He was also associated with Congress in the past. Sunetra Pawar telephoned me thrice till today. A delegation also met me.
