Himachal Assembly accepts report advocating cannabis cultivation

The Himachal Pradesh Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution accepting the high committee report which recommended controlled cultivation of cannabis for non-narcotic purposes. The report was laid in the House by Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi who chaired the committee. Later talking to PTI Videos, Negi said the committee visited different districts of the state and interacted with public representatives to elicit their opinion. It also visited the neighbouring states of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand and Madhya Pradesh to study about cannabis cultivation and submitted the report which has been adopted unanimously by the House, he said. Negi said the industrial hemp is drug-free and can be produced through the state and hundreds of products are being produced from hemp. “We have suggested standard operation procedure for growing medicinal plant with intoxicant in controlled area which would help generate as the plant needs less water, has fewer diseases and is not eaten by animals,” he said. Two held with 56 kg cannabis in Noida

Two suspected drug traffickers were arrested in Noida on Monday after over 56 kilogrammes of cannabis, estimated worth around Rs 15 lakh in international market was allegedly recovered from their possession, police said. The duo was held while carrying the contraband in sacks on the Pushta Road in Sector 127 towards Okhla to be sold on account of Holi, they said. “A checking was conducted on Monday jointly by Sector 126 police station officials and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF). On the basis of confidential inputs, the suspects belonging to an inter-state gang of drug traffickers were intercepted,” Additional DCP (Noida) Manish Mishra said. “Over 56 kgs of cannabis estimated worth around Rs 15 lakh in the international market has been recovered from their possession,” he added. Tripura Police seize 1630 kg of cannabis, one arrested

Tripura Police on Tuesday conducted an anti-narcotics operation and recovered 1630 kg of dry cannabis, valued at approximately Rs 1.6 crore. The recovery was made in the Bet Bagan area, located near the Assam-Agartala National Highway number 8, police said. According to the police, the operation was launched on the basis of information that a 14-wheeler truck, laden with cannabis, was leaving Agartala. A team, comprising members from the Tripura Police, CRPF Battalion 140, 28 Battalion Assam Rifles, and the 3rd Battalion TSR, along with the Executive Magistrate, assembled to intercept the truck, police said. The team set up a checkpoint to curb illegal smuggling. Upon searching the truck, they discovered dry cannabis concealed in rubber bundles, police said. “We recovered 1630 kg of cannabis, which has a market value of around Rs 1.63 lakh,” Avinash Rai, the Superintendent of Police in Dhalai, said.
