Canon is announcing the EOS R6 Mark III camera, its latest jack-of-all-trades full-frame mirrorless model for both stills and video. The new camera has a 32.5-megapixel sensor, improved autofocus, up to 7K video recording, and a new dual-card arrangement with a faster CFexpress Type B slot. It’s set to launch November 25th and will sell body-only for $2,799 as well as in kits with the RF 24-105mm STM lens or RF 24-105mm L lens for $3,149 and $4,049, respectively. The R6 line is aimed at a wider set of users who may not need the higher 45 megapixels of the pricier EOS R5 Mark II or want to spend well over $4,000 for the body alone. But the R6 Mark III seems no slouch now that it’s upping the res from 24 megapixels in the last-gen model to 32.5 megapixels. The megapixel race isn’t over if you ask Canon. Today, the company announced a new 35mm full-frame CMOS sensor with a resolution of 410 megapixels. That’s 24,592 x 16,704 pixels and a resolution that’s equivalent to 24K — or 12 times the resolution of 8K and 198 times the resolution of HD. It’s the ”largest number of pixels ever achieved in a 35mm full-frame sensor,” according to Canon, but don’t expect the company to introduce it on its consumer-ready digital cameras. It’s designed for surveillance, medicine, and other industrial “applications that demand extreme resolution,” and don’t mind paying a small fortune for it. Thanks to a “redesigned circuitry pattern” and a newly developed “back-illuminated stacked formation in which the pixel segment and signal processing segment are interlayered,” Canon says the sensor has a readout speed of “3,280 megapixels per second,” allowing full-resolution images to be captured at eight frames per second. The camera comes with much-improved autofocus powered by the new Digic X processor, new eye-controlled autofocus, a backside illuminated sensor capable of faster readout and better low-light performance, and stunning video specs like recording in 8K internally with Canon Log 2 color profile.  But as much as those specs sound impressive (and they are), using the R5 Mark II also brought back so many memories I’ve made with previous 5D cameras that have been a huge part of my professional and personal life for well over 15 years, specifically the 5D Mark II.  In this review video, I decided to try something a little bit different.
