India beat Zimbabwe by 7 wickets in Shreyas Iyer’s first win as captain

1 min readJul 23, 2026 07:47 PM IST Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 50 in 19 balls as India eased to a seven wicket win against Zimbabwe in the first T20I in Harare with 40 balls to spare. Shreyas Iyer has thus finally recorded his first win as India’s T20I captain, having lost six out of his first seven games in the tours of Ireland and England. India’s new-look pace lineup led the way with Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav returning figures of 2/18 and 2/19 respectively as Zimbabwe were restricted to a paltry score of 125/7 in 20 overs. Sooryavanshi then launched a trademark assault on the Zimbabwean bowlers, which pretty much sealed the deal for India. He fell to Richard Ngarava in the seventh over, by which time India had already raced to 68 runs. To be updated… Disclaimer: We do not own any of the content, ideas, images, or text presented here. Shah has been the vice-captain of the side since 2021, when Shahidi was announced as captain. Under the captaincy of Shahidi, Afghanistan played one Asia Cup and ODI World Cup each, both in 2023, and the Champions Trophy in 2025. Hashmatullah Shahidi’s batting numbers as captain weren’t too different to what they were when he wasn’t leading Afghanistan. When not playing as captain, he averaged 32.97 and had a strike rate of 64.39 and improved to 33.79 and a strike rate of 70.77 after being named as captain. Shah has captained the side in 55 ODIs where they won 27 games, including the win against England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the Netherlands at the 2023 ODI World Cup. They finished in sixth place and secured a place in the 2025 Champions Trophy. They defeated England but failed to qualify for the semi-finals after their games …

Is Shubman Gill a poor captain? Ex-cricketer slams India skipper after series loss to England

4 min readUpdated: Jul 22, 2026 04:11 PM IST India’s poor run in white-ball cricket continued as they suffered a 2-1 series defeat to England in the ODIs, following a 4-0 whitewash in the T20I series. This came after the side was also clean-swept 2-0 by Ireland. The ODI series loss was India’s third defeat in the 50-over format with Shubman Gill at the helm, with his only win coming against Afghanistan at home. Former India player Hanuma Vihari criticised Gill’s captaincy, saying the young leader still has a lot to learn. In the series decider at Lord’s, Gill opted for four pacers and only five genuine bowling options after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out due to a knee injury. The inexperienced attack – featuring Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, Prasidh Krishna, and Arshdeep Singh – conceded 387 runs as India lost by 27 runs, adding another white-ball series to their growing list of defeats. Speaking about Gill’s captaincy, Vihari said, “Having just five bowlers in the last ODI, he (Gill) was struggling with his bowling …

India captain Shreyas Iyer lists out reasons for England series loss | Cricket News

3 min readJul 12, 2026 10:12 AM IST India captain Shreyas Iyer has once again listed the different ground dimensions and the failure of his team to adjust to the conditions as possible reasons for losing the series in England. Just three months after winning their second successive T20 World Cup, India ended their trip to UK without a single win, losing two matches in Ireland and another four in England with one being washed out. When asked for the reasons for the series defeat, Shreyas kept it simple. “There hasn’t been any particular point but you see we kept on going from one venue to another and we kept on facing challenges especially in terms of the dimensions, the grounds, the conditions. Just to adapt to it as quickly as we could have anticipated that didn’t happen, that was one challenge and the other one is definitely they outplayed us in all departments I would say. So, I think combinations of all these points definitely led to this result,” Shreyas said. ALSO READ  | …

In the five-match T20I against England, India ended up losing four of them with one being washed out. Speaking about the series scoreline, Shreyas said there are lessons to be learnt. “It definitely hurts. But I feel that it’s a great learning for me as a captain and also for other players who have played here for the first time. And when I say great learning, it’s all about how you turn up for the tournament. You can’t just have that mindset that you will come to England and you will win the series. You need to work hard, you …
