BPO employee-turned-thief addicted to gambling caught by police
Following a house break-in, Begur police arrested a 27-year-old BPO employee involved in eight such cases in and around the city. The accused, identified as Murthy K., a resident of Bommanahalli, was a BCA graduate working with a private firm. The police said that he confessed that he was paid a low salary but was addicted to online gambling. This led him to steal gold valuables and cash from the locked houses, Inspector Krishna Kumar said. Explaining the modus operandi, Mr. Kumar said that Murthy would go around the area looking for the locked houses and check for the keys, which are kept under window sills or show rocks. These are the common places where working couples usually keep keys. He would gain entry and steal only gold and cash, which is easy to carry, the police said. Using this modus operandi, the accused committed six house break-ins around the Begur area and two in Surya City.
