Punjab: In 2 months, drive out with same-day registration certificate

Come July, vehicle buyers in Punjab will drive out with smart registration certificate (RCs) in hand the very day they buy their vehicle. At present, nearly 2,000 automobile dealers across Punjab issue only provisional RCs at the time of sale. (HT) Aiming to streamline the registration process and eliminate long waits, the Punjab government has approved a new system allowing automobile dealers to issue the RC right after the vehicle sale is completed. The new process, part of a broader push toward digitisation and citizen-centric services in the transport department, is expected to kick in within two months. At present, nearly 2,000 automobile dealers across Punjab issue only provisional RCs at the time of sale. The smart RC — considered the official proof of vehicle registration — typically reaches owners within two to three weeks. With around 64,000 vehicles, both transport and non-transport, being registered every month in the state, delays in issuing RCs have been a persistent concern. Explaining the transition, Punjab transport secretary Varun Roojam said, “Dealers will be granted access to the National …

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh in the lead role. Relief for Aditya Dhar in Dhurandhar plagiarism row LiveLaw reported that the single judge bench of Justice K S Hemalekha in Karnataka HC equivocally dismissed Santosh’s petition demanding the cancellation of Dhurandhar’s certification on the allegation that the movie was a plagiarised version of the Bengaluru-based screenwriter’s original script titled D-Saheb. The court found no merit in the complaint. Santosh has filed a case demanding damages, alleging that Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar borrows heavily from his original script. The case is still sub judice. In a separate case filed by …

The State education authorities had found that the society was operating schools in different names under one recognition certificate and crediting fees collected from students to different accounts of an unregistered society besides illegally running a madarasa within the same campus. Following these disclosures, the Education Department on May 30, 2025, had cancelled recognition and the appellate authority in January 2026 had endorsed cancellation of the recognition.
