No more neckties: Why Haryana schools will see an urgent uniform policy change | Chandigarh News

3 min readChandigarhJul 12, 2026 04:57 PM IST Days after a seven-year-old boy in Bhiwani accidentally strangled himself while playing with his elder brother’s school tie, the Haryana State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Friday urged all schools to discontinue the use of conventional neckties as a mandatory part of school uniforms. The directive applies immediately to all government, government-aided, private, and recognised institutions. Commission Chairperson Tripti confirmed the advisory, telling The Indian Express that similar incidents had previously been reported in Haryana’s Sonipat and in parts of Rajasthan. “Sometimes, fatal accidents happen when children, while playing in a light mood, casually pick up these neckties,” she said. The advisory stated, “Where a necktie is considered necessary to maintain uniformity or discipline, schools should adopt clip‑on (breakaway) or Velcro (quick‑release) neckties.” It further said, “Until such alternatives are adopted, schools should ensure that conventional neckties are not worn during sports, physical education classes, playground activities or any other activity involving a risk of entanglement.” The Commission also directed schools to sensitise teachers, students, and …

How a price surge fuelled gold loans, sparked talk of behavioural change | Explained News

4 min readMumbaiJul 8, 2026 06:43 AM IST The unprecedented rise in gold prices over the last one year – albeit one that has cooled in recent months – has led to such an increase in loans against the yellow metal that experts think Indians are now willing to pawn what they hold of it more easily than before even as prices have moderated. Over the last few years, the people taking gold loans have been increasingly more creditworthy, with Simranjeet Singh, Chief Executive Officer of the SME and retail verticals at Anand Rathi Global Finance, saying that prime and above-prime borrowers’ participation has risen from 43% to 52%. This, according to Singh, suggests “a structural shift in that borrowers now consider gold loans as a major financial tool rather than an emergency last resort option.” What are gold loans being used for? Experts note financing business growth, travel, and even higher education, while the Reserve Bank of India noted last week in its Financial Stability Report that existing borrowers have used higher gold prices …

From the 2024 exit to the one more recently on Sunday, India is stuck playing the cricket of old. Between the two campaigns, the required shift hasn’t happened – neither in approach nor in personnel. Despite a two-year period between the two World Cups, India’s struggle for a settled Number 3 batter is yet to reach its conclusion. Before the 2024 World Cup, India tried out at least six different batters for the position since Amol Mazumdar took over as the head coach in December 2023. Since the 2024 World Cup until the end of their campaign at the 2026 World Cup, the women in blue have played four different batters at the position. While Jemimah Rodrigues seemed to be the first choice, having batted in the position for a majority of the 24 matches India played since the end of 2024 World Cup and start of the 2026 …
