Maharashtra: Transport dept to prepare report for closing 24 checkposts in state | Mumbai News

The Maharashtra transport department will prepare a detailed report over closing of 24 checkposts in the state following instructions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. On Sunday, during the ground-breaking ceremony of Transport Bhavan, Fadnavis had said that closing these checkpoints will be crucial for the growth of trade and the smooth movement of goods. He also directed that a proposal regarding this be submitted by April 15. Confirming the development, Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar said, “There are certain legal and financial matters that need to be addressed, but we are working through them. Once resolved, we will submit the report. Set up check-posts to stop sand smuggling to neighbouring States: CM Naidu

Chandrababu Naidu ordered the officials of Mines & Geology Department to set up check-posts on Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad highways to prevent smuggling of sand to the respective States In a review meeting on free sand policy on Monday, Mr. Naidu said constant monitoring should be done through CCTVs. He said the seigniorage charges had been done away with to supply sand free of cost. Besides, he instructed the officials to permit transportation of sand on tractors only within the limits of villages and for  personal use. Further, Mr. Naidu said people taking sand for personal purposes had to register at their respective village or ward secretariats. He suggested that the allocation of sand excavation and loading to private agencies be reviewed to sort out the issue of sand shortages. Barthwal is on a two-day official visit to Bhutan till September 28. They also discussed to open additional routes for import of areca nut to India through land customs stations (LCS) Hatisar and Darranga. The discussion involved additional point of entry in Darranga LCS for import of food items in India from Bhutan, the statement said. “The government of India agreed to notify LCS at Samrang following upgradation of necessary infrastructure,” it said.
