Cyclone Fengal’s remnant expected to weaken further, cause heavy rain in 15 districts in Tamil Nadu The remnant of Cyclone Fengal that brought torrential rainfall in various districts is expected to weaken further by Tuesday (December 3, 2024). It is expected to bring heavy rainfall to 15 districts in the State as it moves.  The weather system, which is travelling westward slowly, pounded various districts on its path and left a trail of floods. The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, has issued a yellow alert indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall up to 11 cm in interior and Western Ghat districts, including the Nilgiris, Krishnagiri, Tiruppur, Erode, Theni, and Madurai, on Tuesday (December 3, 2024).  Read the full story here. Image Source : PTI Heavy rains lash coastal areas of southern states Cyclone Fengal: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday night said cyclone Fengal (cyclonic storm) has commenced making landfall close to Puducherry and it may take 4 hours for it to cross the coast completely.  “It is likely to move west southwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram close to Puducherry as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph during next 3 hours. The landfall process will continue during the same period,” IMD posted on X. Havy rains expected in Nellore, Tirupati and Chittoor The weather departed predicted light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers at many places over south coastal and Rayalaseema regions while extremely heavy rains are expected at one or two places over SPSR-Nellore, Tirupati and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday. Cyclonic storm Mandous tore past the Tamil Nadu coast near Mahabalipuram late Friday night and early this morning, leaving a trail of flooded streets and uprooted trees and causing damage to buildings and electricity supply lines in its wake. State capital Chennai and nearby areas in Chengalpattu district received heavy rainfall. Mandous has weakened since landfall, the regional weather office said but warned of continuing heavy rain in some parts.
