Indian Railways ramps up Onam travel with 112 special train services

Indian Railways has announced 112 special train trips for the upcoming Onam festival season to accommodate the expected rise in passenger demand, significantly increasing the number of festive services compared to last year. The special trains will operate between August 14 and September 6, connecting Kerala with several major cities across the country and providing additional travel options for passengers returning home for the celebrations. According to an official statement, Southern Railway will operate 54 of the 112 special services, while the remaining 58 trips will be run by other railway zones.  The additional trains have been introduced to reduce waiting lists, ease congestion on popular routes and ensure smoother travel during one of Kerala’s busiest travel seasons. Tamil Nadu govt allocates Rs 10 crore for Chennai open

The Chennai Open is all set to be played in November this year after the Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday allocated Rs 10 crore for the WTA 250 tournament. The decision was taken in a meeting between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and TN Tennis Association (TNTA) president Vijay Amritraj at former’s office. It is learned that the host organisers will raise the rest of the Rs 10 crore necessary to conduct the tournament through sponsorships. The event will take place at the SDAT Tennis Stadium in Nungambakkam between November 2 and 8. The first edition of the tournament was held in 2022 and returned to the calendar after being absent in 2023 and 2024. Indonesia’s Janice Tjen is the defending champion of the hard court tournament. The project, being implemented with financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), is making significant progress towards transforming urban mobility across the Chennai Metropolitan Area. Company sources said that initially, the lightweight and corrosion-free HP Navya cylinders will be made available in Kilpauk, Anna Nagar, Meenambakkam, and Velachery. “Consumers can see the quantum of cooking gas inside the cylinder. It is way lighter than the regular steel cylinders and can be handled easily by everyone. We will expand HP Navya to other areas in a phased manner,” a company official said. Three agencies — Sri Ganesh Gas Service, Kilpauk; Annai Meenakshi, Anna Nagar; and Savitha Gas, Adambakkam — will stock and deliver these variants. Tamil superstar films have never really been about plots. They are carefully orchestrated public festivals where cinema merely provides the excuse. The screenplay is often only the rope holding together fireworks, punchy dialogues, songs, nostalgia and collective emotion. Jana Nayagan understands that better than most. The audience inside a packed Chennai theatre on Friday morning – the first day-first show (FDFS) – was not simply watching Vijay’s final film. They were watching their Chief Minister dance, lecture, campaign, comfort grieving families, attack corruption, defend secularism and eventually walk into a fictional Secretariat – while several members of his real Cabinet quietly appeared alongside him. That alone makes Jana Nayagan unlike anything Indian cinema has seen.
