Families gathered by water bodies at sunrise, offering fruits, sweets, and ‘thekua’ as prasad to Lord Surya, accompanied by hymns and prayers to Chhathi Maiya. Devotees in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai offered ‘Arghya’ to the rising sun at Marina Beach today (November 8).   In Odisha’s Bhubaneswar, devotees offered ‘Arghya’ at a ghat on the banks of Kuakhai River.  The AAP MLA Somnath Bharti performed Chhath puja rituals at Dr Ambedkar Park in Delhi’s Humayunpur area on Friday morning.  Know about Chhath puja festival Chhath Puja spans four days, involving strict rituals and fasting to express gratitude to the Sun God for sustaining life on Earth. Chhath Puja 2024: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Vinai Kumar Saxena, has declared today (November 7) a public holiday in all Delhi government offices in observance of ‘Pratihar Shashthi’ or ‘Surya Shashthi’ (Chhath Puja). The four-day festival began on Tuesday (November 5).  Chhath Puja, dedicated to the Sun God, is celebrated across various Indian states and internationally. This year, it spans from November 5 to 8. “The Lieutenant Governor of the National Capital Territory of Delhi is pleased to declare Thursday, 7th November 2024, as a holiday in all Government offices under the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi on ‘Pratihar Shashthi or Surya Shashthi (Chhat Puja)’,” read a notification issued by Pradeep Tayal, Deputy Secretary, General Administration Department. Chhath Puja 2024: Indian Railways will be operating serval special trains to facilitate travellers during the Chhath Puja festival from stations like Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Jammu Tawi, Amritsar and Ludhiana, said Ferozepur DCM Payal today (November 4). Indian Railways on Friday (November 1) announced that they would run special trains across the country to ensure passengers can travel safely to their hometowns for Chhath Puja. “Special trains will be operational from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, Jammu Tawi, Amritsar and Ludhiana both in reserved and unreserved category. Measures have been taken to ensure the safety and security of passengers and special help desk has also been raised,” she added. “We want to assure all the passengers the Indian Railway is working hard so that they can enjoy festivals with their families,” she said.
