The court said security considerations around the airport must take priority over such requests. A bench comprising Justices B P Colabawalla and Firdosh Pooniwalla observed that while Ramzan is an important religious period for Muslims, people cannot claim a right to offer prayers at any place of their choice, especially in a highly sensitive area like an airport. The court was hearing a petition filed by the Taxi-Rickshaw Ola-Uber Men’s Union. The union said that drivers earlier used a temporary shed near the airport to offer prayers, but the structure was demolished by authorities last year. As part of its annual infrastructure upkeep, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be closed for a few hours on May 8 to carry out pre-monsoon runway maintenance. Both the primary and the secondary runways will remain non-operational between 11 am and 5 pm as part of the airport’s monsoon contingency programme aimed at improving runway safety and maintaining seamless operations during the rainy season. The airport authorities have said that flight services and passenger movement would not be hit due to the closure. “Six-month advance Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued, giving airlines and concerned stakeholders sufficient time to reschedule flights. Due to this foresight, airport officials assure that there would be no inconvenience in passenger movement or operations of airlines,” said a CSMIA spokesperson. While the man was arrested, the name of a prospective buyer of the smuggled gold came up during his questioning.(Representative image) In a follow-up action, DRI officials also arrested a prospective buyer, who was part of the gold smuggling syndicate, from Mumbai, he said. Mumbai: A Mumbai-bound IndiGo plane from Jaipur, with 225 passengers plus crew, landed at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on Monday under full emergency conditions due to a bomb threat, said the airport.  The flight landed safely at around 8.50 pm and the aircraft was taken to a remote bay for a thorough check as part of security protocols, said authorities. “A threat note was discovered in an aircraft en route from Jaipur (JAI) to Mumbai (BOM). As a precaution, full emergency was declared at Mumbai Airport at 2043 hrs. The flight landed safely at 2050 hrs. Airport operations remain unaffected,” the Mumbai airport said in a statement. “CSMIA is actively coordinating with the airline and security agencies.
