China will be India’s main long-term competitor, says ex-Army chief Manoj Naravane

China is likely to emerge as India’s main long-term competitor across multiple domains, while Pakistan remains an immediate security concern largely because of the continuing threat of terrorism, former Army chief General Manoj Naravane has said. Naravane, however, said he deliberately preferred the term “competitor” rather than “enemy” while referring to China. He stressed that India should seek to resolve differences with Beijing through dialogue and diplomatic mechanisms while maintaining credible military deterrence. Xi’s skipping of G20 Summit may have more to do with China than with India

Chinese President Xi Jinping was born in the lap of luxury but, as his father was purged during China’s Cultural Revolution, a young Xi had to toil in the farms as a manual labourer in the countryside for 6 years. Those struggles would be nothing compared to the task the all-supreme leader now faces. Xi is skipping the G20 Summit in New Delhi and experts have failed to pin-point the one big reason why China is sending Premier Li Qiang instead. It is true that China’s relationship with India has been mostly frosty since the border clashes in May 2020. And it is also possible that the Chinese government decided to send Premier Li Qiang instead of President Xi to send out a signal. But the Chinese government has maintained that it was ready to work with all the parties for the global event’s success in New Delhi this week. Also, Xi might not want to share the stage with the “tough crowd” at the G20. Many G20 member countries have “hardened their positions on …

New Delhi: A Chinese woman suspected of spying on Dalai Lama was detained by police today in Bihar’s Gaya district. She is likely to be deported back to China. Earlier today, local police had sounded a security alert as Dalai Lama is scheduled to participate in several events in the Bihar district. Sketches of the suspected Chinese spy, identified as Song Xiaolan had been released and circulated on social media with authorities requesting residents to provide information about her. According to inputs, the suspected Chinese spy had been living in different parts of the country including Bodh Gaya for more than one year. However, there is no record in the foreign section about the stay of the Chinese woman. Dalai Lama has this year resumed his annual tour to Bodh Gaya, which had been suspended for the last two years due to the Covid pandemic. Security has been increased in and around the Mahabodhi Temple Complex. The Dalai Lama addressed a gathering this morning at the ‘Kaal Chakra’ maidan. He is slated to give his …

India’s befitting reply as China troops clashed at Arunachal LAC | 10 points | Latest News India

As many as 300 heavily prepared Chinese Army (PLA) soldiers were sent to the LAC or Line of Actual Control in Tawang Sector of Arunachal Pradesh during the clash with Indian Army troops on December 9, but they did not expect the Indian side also to be well prepared, news agency ANI reported quoting sources. The Indian troops deployed in the area of face-off in Tawang sector gave a befitting response to the Chinese troops and the number of Chinese soldiers injured in the clash is more than the Indian soldiers, the ANI report added. Here’s what we know about India-China troops clash in Arunachal LAC so far: 1. Indian and Chinese troops clashed in the northeast state of Arunachal Pradesh last week, according to Indian officials familiar with the matter, the first such encounter between the neighbours since 2020, reported Bloomberg. 2. The incident took place on December 9 and led to minor injuries on both sides. Both sides have since disengaged from the area, sources told ANI said, adding military commanders have met …
