IPL: KKR bowlers, Finn Allen choke Delhi | Cricket News

DC batters implode in a fifth successive home defeat as Finn Allen’s century shows hosts the way in KKR’s eight-wicket win at Kotla. The mathematical equations could be marginally alive. But the harsh bearings of the recent batting slump have staggered Delhi Capitals’ season before their eyes, in their own backyard. The result was another breezy chase for the visitors. Worse, a marauding Allen even tore their vaunted bowling attack to shreds with a 47-ball ton studded with 10 sixes. KL Rahul had batted out the full 20 overs the last time he was on this strip. He walked back unbeaten, on 152, the highest-ever score by an Indian in the league. On Friday, Rahul hung back and waited for the loose lengths from the Kolkata Knight Riders spinners until the slowness began to jerk the bat in the powerplay. Hard hands, a stiff bottom grip and a forced slog proved his early undoing, slowly unravelling the now familiar script. Even as Pathum Nissanka implied positive timing, warping the bowlers with his pick-up pulls and …

South Africa didn’t choke, they got ‘bloody walloped’, a proper ‘snotklap’ | Cricket News

South Africa didn’t choke, they got ‘bloody walloped’, a proper ‘snotklap’ | Cricket News

Shukri Conrad spared the jaded English-speaking cricket fans from dipping into the clichéd, tiresome and unfactual resort to the ‘choking’ word, and offered delightful alternatives. Which actually conveys the result more accurately. South Africa got “bloody wallopped”, he admitted, unfurling his multilingual wry wit, before the “chokers”-bandwagon started chugging from the platform of the ponderously prosaic. A ‘choke’ even in the strictest taunting terms as the host broadcaster foolishly portrayed in an ad, needed the said choking team to get a “sniff” at a win, which Aiden Markram’s batters, let alone the Finn Allen-battered bowlers, got anywhere close to. The ongoing T20 World Cup in fact, was given delightful additions of verbs in languages that love the game and express it, but are not widely known beyond their geography: Afrikaans and Italian. Not many can match Pakistani ex-cricketers at their determined, delicious take-downs of their own team, though you have to wonder what words the Sinhalese said that sent the Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka running to the government, asking for a restraining order on …

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal condemned the incident, calling it an example of “Congress arrogance and frustration.” “While you want to CHOKE India’s development by peddling lies about the recent trade deals, your foot soldiers are marching shirtless at the prestigious AI Summit, attempting to embarrass 140 crore Indians globally,” said Goyal in an X post. “So, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, humiliating India to target the government is your idea of opposition?” Goyal wrote, adding that the protest was a deliberate attempt to shame India before a global audience. This is CONGRESS ARROGANCE & FRUSTRATION …

Debate on ‘choke’ gesture by Nishesh Basavareddy rages on, as Indo-American reaches Australian Open main draw | Tennis News

His ‘choke’ celebration post defeating Sébastien Ofner of Austria had gone viral, and sharply divided tennis universe at the Australian Open qualifiers. But Nishesh Basavareddy, the combative American of Indian heritage, has backed up that dramatic win with another one to make the main draw after beating George Loffhagen 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. The Indiana tennis player next plays Christopher O’Donnell of Australia, but his march into the main draw has left a trail of debate. At the heart of the matter is the ‘choke’ gesture, made famous by NBA’s Reggie Miller who brought alive the rivalry between Indiana Pacers and New York Knicks. He would cross his arms over his throat in a choking motion after his clutch performances against Knicks, most famously aimed at Spike Lee in 1994. It’s quite the rage still, copied by Tyrese Haliburton. Hema Malini lived in a ‘haunted’ house during early days in Mumbai, felt someone was trying to ‘choke’ her: ‘It happened every night’ | Bollywood News

Hema Malini spent her life living in a bungalow across the street from husband Dharmendra, as he primarily lived with his first wife Prakash Kaur and sons Sunny and Bobby Deol. Hema and Dharmendra tied the knot in 1980, and since then, she has lived in her sprawling bungalow in Juhu with her two daughters Esha and Ahana, as Dharmendra often visited them. But, there was a time when Hema was living in a haunted house where she felt that she was being literally choked every night. Hema grew up in Delhi and Chennai (then Madras), and was fond of living in bungalows that were surrounded by greenery. Both the aforementioned cities had these kinds of houses but in Mumbai (then Bombay), Hema was trying to get used to living in an apartment, which never really felt like a good fit to her. At one point, her father, in a bid to make her feel at home, surprised her with a sea-facing apartment, which was presumably bought with her money, but she rejected it at …

Pune-Mumbai Expressway, other highways choke as weekend, festive and tourist rush peaks

Pune-Mumbai Expressway, other highways choke as weekend, festive and tourist rush peaks

Heavy weekend commuter traffic between Pune and Mumbai, further intensified by the festive season and a surge of tourists heading to hill stations, led to severe congestion in the ghat section of the Pune–Mumbai Expressway Saturday. The situation compelled the highway police to implement half a dozen traffic breaks to ease the jam. State highway police officers said the congestion also spilled over onto the old Pune–Mumbai highway and several bypass roads within Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad. Other highways connecting Pune to Satara, Nashik, Solapur, and Ahilyanagar also witnessed a weekend traffic surge, resulting in multiple traffic snarls. Highway police said the ghat section was the primary choke point for both the Expressway and the Old Highway, as a major surge in vehicles plying between the two metros and to hill stations was reported. Traffic movement slowed significantly when multiple heavy vehicles broke down on gradients in the ghat stretch, partially blocking the lanes and disrupting the flow. The resulting bottlenecks caused cascading delays, forcing repeated traffic regulation measures and substantially increasing travel time for …

‘India Gate disappeared’: AAP, Congress take potshot as very poor AQI, smog choke Delhi

The Aam Aadmi Party and the Congress launched fresh criticism in the wake of the deteriorating air quality in the smog-choked Delhi, which has been recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) between ‘poor’ and ‘very poor’ category for days now. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj has alleged that the MCD trucks have been sprinkling water “day and night around” the air quality monitoring stations. (AFP) Sharing a photo of faintly visible India Gate amid smog in the Capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said on its X handle that the iconic structure had “disappeared.” “India Gate has disappeared in Delhi…No matter how much the government tampers with the AQI, India Gate has exposed the BJP’s true colors by vanishing behind the smog,” AAP’s Delhi unit said in a post on X. AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, while talking to reporters in Delhi, said that most applications on people’s mobile phones were taking data from the government’s air quality monitoring stations. “The AQI you see on your mobile phones, most apps take data from the Delhi and central …

Moeen and Varun choke RR’s batting rhythm, then De Kock puts on masterclass in KKR’s impressive win against RR

Synopsis: Moeen Ali steps in for Sunil Narine as KKR spinners hunt in a pair. Then Quinton De Kock stamps his class during the chase, in the process gives grief to Jofra Archer. If 200-plus scores were getting to be too much of a run fest, the slowish wicket in Guwahati provided a challenge for the batsmen and brought the spinners into play. Rajasthan Royals innings never got going after Varun Chakaravarty and Moeen Ali struck vital blows. Kolkata Knight Riders were always in control of the chase as Quinton de Kock produced a masterclass with a mix of power-hitting and smart batting. KKR’s spinners click Sanju Samson’s early dismissal, trying to charge fast bowler Vaibhav Arora and getting yorked, was a setback for RR, but what followed once the KKR spinners were brought on was a mini disaster. Wanindu Hasaranga at No.5 was Rajasthan’s attempt to disturb the rhythm of the Kolkata spinners but his innings lasted just four balls. A young Hasaranga’s stronger suit was batting before he made a name as a …
