Why US Catholics are planning pilgrimages in communities across the nation | World News

A long-planned series of Catholic pilgrimages has begun across the United States this weekend, with pilgrims embarking on four routes before converging on Indianapolis in two months for a major gathering focusing on Eucharistic rites and devotions. The National Eucharistic Pilgrimage is beginning with Masses and other events in California, Connecticut, Minnesota and Texas. A small group of pilgrims plan to walk entire routes, but most participants are expected to take part for smaller segments. Each route goes along country roads and through city centers, with multiple stops at parishes, shrines and other sites. Although it was forged amid a recent debate among bishops over whether to refuse Communion to US  politicians who don’t oppose abortion, the pilgrimage is a revival of a historic Catholic tradition that faded by the mid-20th century. Each procession is being led by a priest holding a monstrance — typically a sunburst-patterned vessel that displays the host, or bread wafer consecrated by a priest at Mass. The Catholic Church teaches the “whole Christ is truly present — body, blood, soul, …

Vatican blasts sex change surgery, surrogacy and gender theory as grave threats to human dignity | World News

The Vatican on Monday declared sex change operations and surrogacy as grave threats to human dignity, putting them on par with abortion and euthanasia as practices that violate God’s plan for human life. The Vatican’s doctrine office issued “Infinite Dignity,” a 20-page declaration that has been in the works for five years. After substantial revision in recent months, it was approved March 25 by Pope Francis, who ordered its publication. In its most eagerly anticipated section, the Vatican repeated its rejection of “gender theory” or the idea that one’s gender can be changed. It said God created man and woman as biologically different, separate beings, and said they must not tinker with that plan or try to “make oneself God.” “It follows that any sex-change intervention, as a rule, risks threatening the unique dignity the person has received from the moment of conception,” the document said. It distinguished between transitioning surgeries, which it rejected, and “genital abnormalities” that are present at birth or that develop later. Those abnormalities can be “resolved” with the help of …

SEO Title: Christianity Research Scam: The Tale of Evangelist Dr. John Ganesh

The fake palm leaf writings that Ganesh Iyer showed to the church authorities. At right, G. Senrayaperumal, inspector of the CB-CID, who probed the case. | Photo Credit: The Tamil Nadu police A composed behaviour, coupled with persuasion skills and in-depth knowledge of Christianity, was good enough for Ganesh Iyer to introduce himself as “Evangelist Dr. John Ganesh”. It was in the early 1970s that he first met Rev. Fr. Michael of Tamil Ilakkiya Kazhagam, posing as a religious researcher studying the roots of Christianity in India. In no time was John Ganesh able to convince a gullible Fr. Michael with his eloquence and voluminous documents that he was fully engaged in researching the origin and growth of Christianity in India and some support from the church would help in expediting his work. He was referred to Fr. Mariadas of Srivilliputtur, who had no idea that the “visiting Professor” was Ganesh Iyer, a native of Srirangam, involved in a couple of cheating cases. G. ‘Christianity has become flexible to India’s caste system’

While Christianity has made a lasting impact on society, politics and administration in countries across the world, it has become flexible in its approach towards the caste system in India. The existing society here has deeply influenced the religion, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader and Lok Sabha member Thol. Thirumavalavan has said. “In India, it has established itself without making any fundamental change to the existing society. It is a strange phenomenon. Here, the roots of caste has nourished Christianity,” he said, releasing Christhuvathil Jaathi (Caste in Christianity), authored by writer Nivedita Louis, in Chennai on Thursday. He said the “roots of Christianity in India are the roots of caste” and it does not possess the “roots of its Christian values”. “The approach seems to be that other factors do not matter so long as they remain Christians. Visit the church and sit separately. Be a Christian and it does not matter if you have separate burial grounds. This flexibility, I say, is not the weakness of Christianity. But it only proves the power of …

There was no field study done… The Commission (Misra) took a myopic view of the social milieu in India. The findings of the Ranganath Misra Commission have not been accepted by the government,” Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, for the government, submitted before a three-judge Bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul. Mr. Mehta said a new Commission chaired by former Chief Justice of India K.G. Balakrishnan was constituted recently under the Commission of Inquiry Act, 1952 to re-examine the question whether SC status ought to be granted to “new persons” who had converted to religions …
