CBSE: Students must pass third-language school assessment to get Class 10 certificate from 2027-28 | Education News

3 min readNew DelhiJul 14, 2026 01:01 PM IST The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has clarified that while the third language (R3) will not be part of the Class 10 Board examination for students entering the class in 2027-28, clearing the school-based assessment in the subject will be compulsory for receiving the pass certificate. In a circular dated July 10, the Board said students “must clear the school-based R3 assessment” in Class 10. Those who fail the internal assessment will have to undergo a reassessment by their schools before the Board announces the final results. CBSE reiterated that students who fail the school-based R3 assessment in Class 9 will not be detained. They will be promoted to Class 10 in the 2027-28 academic year but must clear the pending Class 9 R3 assessment while studying in Class 10. The clarification comes days after CBSE’s June 29 circular operationalising the three-language formula under the National Education Policy (NEP). Under the revised scheme, students from Class 6 onwards are required to study three languages, of …

According to Bhubaneswar deputy commissioner of police Jagmohan Meena, the girl’s mother returned home in the afternoon, triggering panic. “The boy allegedly hid in the bathroom and is suspected to have later entered the service duct adjacent to it in an attempt to avoid being seen. During the investigation, police recovered the boy’s bag hanging near the service duct on the 9th floor. The boy’s body was found lying in a pool of blood inside the apartment complex, strengthening the suspicion that he may have accidentally slipped and fallen from the area,” Meena said. “It appears …

NCERT publishes revised Class 8 Social Science textbook, rewrites controversial chapter on judiciary

The NCERT has released a revised Class 8 Social Science textbook dropping the disputed portions. | Photo Credit: The Hindu Months after it stoked a controversy for allegedly defaming the judiciary, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released a revised Class 8 Social Science textbook dropping the disputed portions. The controversial portions along with references to judicial backlog and two major court verdicts have been dropped while fresh material on public interest litigation (PIL), tribunals and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms has been added in the revised textbook. Portions removed The opening “Big Questions” section at the start of the chapter has also seen a change. Instead of asking students why an independent judiciary is necessary, as the withdrawn textbook did, the revised chapter asks why justice is important for a “just and harmonious society”. Gone entirely is the section on “Challenges Faced by the Judicial System”, which had detailed the “massive backlog” of cases and blamed it on a shortage of judges, cumbersome procedures and weak infrastructure. Also excised is the …
