4 min readHyderabadMay 25, 2026 12:05 PM IST The clearest signal yet that Jana Nayagan is inching toward a release did not come from the producers, the studio, censor board or the courts. It came from ticket booking apps. Fans noticed over the weekend that both District by Zomato and BookMyShow had updated their listings for Jana Nayagan with June 19 as the expected release date. Screenshots circulated quickly on social media, setting off a fresh round of speculation about whether Vijay’s long-delayed final movie as an actor was finally finding its way to theatres. Some fans even got a notification alert from these apps to save the date, pushing them into a tangle of confusion Netizens pointed out the alleged release date, June 19, lands three days before Vijay’s 52nd birthday on June 22, and a release that week would let fans mark both occasions in one go. However, when SCREEN checked with the production house, they remained elusive. “We are yet to receive the certificate, but we are looking at releasing the film …

Row over book release, exam clearance at SSUS intensifies

The Vice-Chancellor (V-C) of Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) has asked V. No sponsor, no police clearance: Lakshadweep simplifies tourist entry rules | Destination-of-the-week News

3 min readNew DelhiMay 2, 2026 03:00 PM IST Travelling to the islands of Lakshadweep may soon become significantly easier. In a major move to boost tourism, the Union Territory administration has relaxed several long-standing entry permit rules for domestic travellers, simplifying a process many tourists previously found cumbersome. Under the revised guidelines issued by the administration, tourists will no longer require a local sponsor to obtain an entry permit. Besides, applicants are no longer required to secure police clearance certificates from their hometowns or local police authorities before applying. Instead, background verification and security checks will now be conducted directly by the Lakshadweep Police after the application is submitted. The changes are intended to make travel planning smoother while still maintaining security protocols for the ecologically sensitive island territory. What were the earlier permit rules? Earlier, travelling to Lakshadweep involved multiple layers of paperwork and approvals. Since the islands are protected under special regulations, all non-islanders, including Indian citizens, require entry permits. Previously, tourists had to: Arrange a local sponsor or local reference from …

As per reports, a panel has been directed to draft a detailed, industry-friendly SOP based on the central government’s model for live event clearance. Maharashtra’s single-window clearance system: A boon or bane With the state working on a single-window clearance system backed by clear standard operating procedures, HT got in touch with organisers, artists and attendees, as they share their take on how this new rule could cut through long-standing hurdles. Naman Pugalia, Chief Business Officer – Live Events, BookMyShow, says, “The introduction of a single-window clearance system sets a strong precedent. In our recent report, we outlined how unified clearance mechanisms, supported by stronger inter-departmental coordination, can significantly improve ease of doing business and enable the efficient delivery of global-scale events. We’ve seen firsthand how fragmented approvals can impact timelines, routing and execution. A system like this meaningfully reduces that friction. Concerts can’t collapse over permissions, we need smoother system: Nikhita Gandhi on Maha govt single window clearance

As the Maharashtra single-window clearance system for live events begins to take shape, the live entertainment industry is cautiously optimistic about what could finally be a solution to one of its biggest and most persistent challenges—last-minute cancellations due to complex permissions. As per the reports, the proposed rule aims to streamline the approval process for concerts, festivals, and large-scale events by creating a unified platform where organisers can secure all necessary clearances—from police and fire departments to civic authorities—under one system, instead of navigating multiple agencies individually. Nikhita Gandhi For years, this fragmented system has been a major pain point, often leading to abrupt disruptions even when events are fully planned, rehearsed, and marketed. Singer Nikhita Gandhi, who has been actively performing across the country, recently experienced this chaos firsthand and describes the emotional and logistical toll it takes on everyone involved. “The little literature that I read about this, I think it’s fantastic news, because I really like — I feel so bad when events get cancelled and pushed. And, you know, in the …
