‘Decide your future after Champions Trophy’: BCCI’s clear-cut instruction to Rohit Sharma; Virat Kohli not in danger yet

With an eye on the future, the BCCI has told Rohit Sharma to decide on his future after the completion of the Champions Trophy 2025. Irrespective of how India perform in the marquee ICC tournament, the India captain has been asked to discuss his future so they can groom the next captain accordingly. Rohit, 38, finds himself in a race against time. While there is no doubt he wants to play on – he made it abundantly clear during the Sydney Test, which he sat out – his current returns don’t support him. Unless Rohit does something extraordinary to roar back to form, such as enjoy a record-breaking CT or set the IPL 2025 on fire, his chances of going to England look slim. If that is the case, the BCCI needs to finalise India’s next captain – at least for ODIs and Tests, for which they need an answer soon. There’s no clear-cut answer to who-next after Messi, Ronaldo; and that’s not necessarily a bad thing | Football News

Late last week, Cristiano Ronaldo reminded the world that glory has not departed his goal-scoring boots. Against Poland, he struck a delightful bicycle kick. Across the Atlantic, his timeless peer Lionel Messi has been essaying hat-tricks. Even after their departure from the mainstream football map, they dwell in footballing consciousness, and continue to pull eyeballs to the games and leagues they inhabit. Primarily this is because they were not just the finest of their generation, but two of the greatest of all time, cutting across eras. Partly, this is because they have left an unfilled vacuum in European football. It’s difficult to fill in the throne they have vacated. They have refined their yardsticks of greatness to such an elevated space that even greatness in any other milieu would seem plainly ordinary in these times. It’s like the sprinters after the Usain Bolt era, or the racquet-wielders after the farewells of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Like in tennis and athletics, there is no definite undisputed answer to the question: “Who is the best footballer …

Sebastian Coe wants clear-cut transgender policies from IOC: ‘Protecting women’s sport is a non-negotiable for me’ | Sport-others News

Former Olympic champion Sebastian Coe has said the International Olympic Committee needed clear-cut policies to protect women’s sport to avoid controversies such as the one in boxing at this year’s Paris Games. Coe is one of seven people in the running to become the next president of the International Olympic Committee after Thomas Bach and made it very clear he would push for immediate change in the participation of trans athletes and those with Differences of Sexual Development (DSD) in women’s events, reported Reuters. Athletics was at the forefront of formulating a policy that largely excluded them, but the IOC failed to follow suit, instead handing the responsibility to individual sports federations. When the IOC took over the running of amateur boxing for the Paris Olympics, however, that lack of clarity was thrust into the spotlight by the gold medal success of Algeria’s Imane Khelif and Taiwan’s Lin Yu-ting, who had previously been banned after adverse sex chromosome tests. “I felt uncomfortable with that,” Coe said. “I think the lesson was that you need clear-cut …
