All residents of 3 slum clusters near PM’s residence will be rehabilitated: Centre to HC | Delhi News

3 min readMar 11, 2026 10:56 AM IST Everyone living in the three slum clusters on Race Course Road near the Prime Minister’s residence in New Delhi will be rehabilitated, the Centre told the Delhi High Court on Tuesday as the court heard a petition challenging the eviction of slum dwellers and demolition of the jhuggi and jhopdi (JJ) clusters. The Centre, the HC was told, has “taken a conscious decision that there will be no resident deemed to be eligible or not eligible” for rehabilitation, and in fact, “all will be eligible”. In February, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs’ (MoHUA) Land and Development Office (L&DO) had issued notices to residents of the three JJ clusters — Bhai Ram Camp, Masjid Camp, and DID Camp — on Race Course Road, situated adjacent to the Delhi Race Club and Jaipur Polo Ground, to vacate the premises. However, a petition was moved the same month by over 300 residents of the Bhai Ram camp in the High Court, seeking quashing of the notice “and/or allotment” …

Disruption grows in Uttar Pradesh industrial clusters due to U.S. tariffs as demand for bailout grows louder

Dense industrial clusters in Uttar Pradesh like Kanpur, Firozabad, Bhadohi and Moradabad witnesses disrupted in exports due to imposition of 50% import duty by the United States on Indian goods leading to stalled orders, shrinking market access, and widespread job losses especially among temporary and contract workers with at least 25% business loss in initial assessment, says export union representatives and local factory owners of these cities. The demand for a bailout package from the government is growing in these clusters amid fear of further decline. Among these U.P. clusters, Moradabad is synonymous with brass handicrafts, Firozabad with glass Industry, Kanpur with leather and Bhadohi-Mirzapur with handmade carpet. “This sector saw a 35–50% decline in U.S. centred orders since tariffs. Estimated 8,000–10,000 workers, including women artisans, are affected,” said Gaurav Singla, a member of export promotion council and glass manufacturer based in Firozabad. Bhadohi, along with neighbouring districts such as Mirzapur, which serves as the hub of India’s handmade carpet industry, accounting for more than 60% of the nation’s total ₹ 17,000 crore exports are …

Karnataka to develop natural farming demonstration plots in 990 clusters

In a bid to provide a push for natural farming, Karnataka has decided to develop demonstration plots of natural farming on an experimental basis in 990 clusters of different districts, according to Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy. The Minister said this after holding consultations with farmers’ organisations that are involved in natural farming and officials concerned on implementation of Dr. Subhash Palekar model of natural farming in the State. Certification process Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said the government would also take measures to put in place a system for certification of natural farming produce. New schemes were also being introduced to ensure value addition to the crops in a bid to secure remunerative incomes to farmers, he said. He said natural farming was being promoted to ensure sustainability in farming as part of measures to economically empower farmers besides taking care of soil health and protection of environment. He said the government would take measures to promote chemical-free farming practices, including organic farming in dry-land zones. Published – March 25, 2025 09:47 pm IST Disclaimer: We do not …

Researchers Spot Unusual, Overmassive Globular Clusters in Ultra-Diffuse Galaxy FCC 224

Researchers Spot Unusual, Overmassive Globular Clusters in Ultra-Diffuse Galaxy FCC 224

A team of researchers has observed an ultra-diffuse galaxy, FCC 224, uncovering an unusual system of globular clusters. The galaxy, located in the Fornax cluster approximately 65 million light-years away, has been found to host luminous and overmassive globular clusters. The study, conducted using the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and supported by spectroscopic data from the Keck Cosmic Web Imager (KCWI), has provided insights into the formation and evolution of this galaxy and its star clusters. The findings indicate a single-burst star formation history, with the globular clusters displaying unique characteristics in terms of mass, size, and brightness distribution. Overmassive Globular Cluster System Identified According to the study published on the arXiv pre-print server, FCC 224 is a quiescent ultra-diffuse galaxy estimated to be around 10 billion years old. It has a major axis effective radius of roughly 6,160 light-years and a stellar mass of approximately 200 million solar masses. Observations have revealed that the galaxy hosts 12 exceptionally bright globular clusters, with some showing absolute magnitudes around -9.0 mag. The total mass of these …

Coma Cluster’s Distance Closer Than Predicted, Amplifying Hubble Tension Crisis

Coma Cluster’s Distance Closer Than Predicted, Amplifying Hubble Tension Crisis

The mystery surrounding the Hubble tension has intensified following new findings indicating that the Coma Cluster of galaxies is 38 million light-years closer than predicted by standard cosmological models. The Hubble tension refers to a persistent discrepancy between the universe’s expansion rate as measured in the modern era and the rate predicted based on observations of the early universe. This ongoing issue has now been described as a crisis, underscoring its potential implications for the foundations of cosmology. Discrepancies in Measurements Highlight the Issue According to a study, which was led by Dan Scolnic of Duke University and Adam Riess of Johns Hopkins University, type Ia supernova explosions observed in the Coma Cluster reveal that the cluster is significantly closer to Earth than models suggest. The findings, which anchor their data to Hubble Space Telescope observations, point to a calculated distance of 321 million light-years. This figure deviates from the 359 million light-years predicted by the standard model, which incorporates the Hubble–Lemaître law and observations of the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The Hubble Tension Explained …

‘Never imagined we’d ever get a house like this’: JJ clusters celebrate as PM Modi inaugurates flats in Northwest Delhi | Delhi News

Ram Charan found himself in the spotlight on Friday. The 50-year-old construction worker shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who gave him a big blue key to symbolically hand over possession of his new house at Swabhiman Apartments in Northwest Delhi. He and his wife Sheela Bai, residents of the nearby Golden Park slum cluster, then found themselves surrounded by BJP workers, government functionaries, and reporters, trying to get selfies and videos, along with four other couples, who like them were recipients of pucca houses meant to relocate them from slum clusters. The couple, who have two children, are relieved to have a roof over their heads; Ram Charan hasn’t been able to find work in the last two months. “We never thought we would get a house like this… aaj hum narak se uthkar ujale mein aa gaye hai (we have been lifted from hell and ushered towards the light),” Sheela Bai said. At the mega event in Ashok Vihar District Park, Modi inaugurated key infrastructure projects, including the 1,675 flats for …
