At least 10 passengers were charred to death and several others sustained injuries when a lorry rammed into a private passenger bus which they were travelling in, triggering a massive fire that engulfed both vehicles in Andhra Pradesh’s Markapuram district on Thursday morning, police said. A woman was killed and 15 others, including seven children, were injured in a multi-vehicle collision on the Dehradun-Haridwar National Highway in Uttarakhand, police said on Monday. The accident occurred late Sunday night on the Motichur flyover in front of Hotel Godwin, where an Uttarakhand Roadways bus hit a tractor trolley from behind.  Subsequently,  a Scorpio and two other vehicles crashed into the bus causing a pile-up, they said. The police said that the collision likely caused the Scorpio’s CNG cylinder to explode and catch fire, damaging other vehicles. The police have registered a case against the captain of a Panama-registered ship that rammed a fishing boat off the Kerala coast, leaving two fishermen missing and nine others rescued, officials said on Monday (March 9, 2026). The Vizhinjam Coastal Police registered the case against the captain of the ship named Solis. The case was registered on Sunday, based on a complaint lodged by Ramesh Mathew of Sakthikulangara, Kollam, owner of the fishing boat St Joseph, which left for fishing on Friday night. The FIR said that the missing crew members are Badal Das (23) and Laxman Das (45), both natives of West Bengal. Photo: Special arrangement Five police personnel were killed and three others were battling for life following a head-on collision between their vehicle and a stone chips-laden truck on National Highway 49 in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district in the wee hours of Sunday (February 22, 2026). Eight police personnel were returning from the marriage of a police constable in Rengali area under Lakhanpur police station, when the accident that took place in front of the Jharsuguda Sadar Police Station. It was severe enough that five police personnel died on the spot. Five people were killed in a road accident on Sunday evening in Tamil Nadu`s Thoothukudi, police said. The incident occurred near the East Coast Road in Vaippar-1 village, under Vilathikulam taluk, where 40-year-old Gurusamy, a resident of Pallakulam village, was travelling on a two-wheeler with his relatives. While they were proceeding towards Pallakulam, their vehicle collided head-on with a tourist van travelling from Sayalkudi in Ramanathapuram district towards Thoothukudi, resulting in a severe accident. Expressing shock and grief over the tragic incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin conveyed heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families.
