The Kindle Colorsoft is now a far better deal thanks to Amazon’s Big Spring Sale

The Kindle Colorsoft is now a far better deal thanks to Amazon’s Big Spring Sale

When we reviewed the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition late last year, one of our biggest gripes was the e-reader’s initial starting price of $279.99. It’s a high price to pay for an ebook reader, particularly given its smaller 7-inch display and lack of stylus support, but those shortcomings are more forgivable now that the ebook reader is on sale at Amazon and Best Buy for an all-time low of $224.99 ($55 off). At its core, the Colorsoft is really just a Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition with a color screen. It’s the first Kindle to utilize E Ink’s color screen technology, which provides more vibrancy than Kobo’s like-minded Libra Colour — even if the 300ppi resolution is halved in color mode. The resulting contrast and color make browsing and reading books (or comics!) more pleasant and engaging, but don’t expect the kind of glossy, high-res images you might get on a dedicated tablet with an OLED or LCD display. That said, the Colorsoft benefits from all the upgrades you’ll find on Amazon’s newer Kindles, as well …

Amazon Kindle Colorsoft review: color isn’t quite enough of an upgrade

Amazon Kindle Colorsoft review: color isn’t quite enough of an upgrade

Four years after the first color e-readers launched, Amazon has finally introduced a Kindle with a color screen. The $279.99 Kindle Colorsoft features the same color E Ink technology used in e-readers like the Kobo Libra Colour but customized with a new display stack, brighter LEDs, and special coatings. Colors appear more saturated and a little more vibrant on the Colorsoft’s seven-inch screen than they do on the Libra Colour, while screen refreshes are faster and contrast is notably better, making black lines and borders in comics look darker than they do on other color e-readers. The upgrades also make browsing Amazon’s store more engaging, with book covers that better grab your attention. Despite an issue with screen discoloration affecting some devices, the Kindle Colorsoft has the best color screen of any e-reader I’ve tested. But its price has me wishing for more upgrades, like a larger screen and stylus support. The color screen doesn’t add enough to the Kindle experience by itself to justify the extra cost. Amazon’s first coloured Kindle ‘Colorsoft’ has a yellow bar issue | Technology News

Amazon recently unveiled its latest lineup of Kindle e-readers, including the company’s very first coloured Kindle — Colorsoft. The launch of its most ambitious product, however, hasn’t gone as expected. Some of the first batch of buyers have started to notice a yellow bar at the bottom of the e-book reader that covers almost five to ten per cent of the screen. Amazon acknowledged the problem and spokesperson Jill Tornifoglio issued the following statement to The Verge: “We’re aware of a small number of reports from customers who see a yellow band along the bottom of the display. We take the quality of our products seriously and are looking into it. If customers notice this on their device, they can reach out to our customer service team.” Colorsoft has yellow tinge to bottom of displaybyu/TheVloginator inkindle https://embed.reddit.com/widgets.js While some users have reported that the yellow bar goes almost unnoticed, others are complaining that it is too distracting. For now, it’s unclear whether this is caused due to software or hardware issues. The product currently has …

Kindle Colorsoft owners complain of a yellow bar on the e-reader’s screen

Kindle Colorsoft owners complain of a yellow bar on the e-reader’s screen

People have started receiving their orders of Amazon’s first color e-reader, the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, and many say they’re disappointed to find a yellow, discolored strip at the bottom of the display. Complaints about the $279.99 e-reader’s display have spread online and dragged down its Amazon star rating, and some report customer service reps say a fix is on the way. It’s possible the discoloration will be corrected with a software update, as one person who replied posted a screenshot in which a customer service agent appeared to confirm that Amazon is working on issuing a fix for it. Multiple people said in another thread that the issue didn’t appear until after an initial software update, so there may be something to that. We’ve reached out to Amazon for comment. It’s not immediately clear how widespread the issue is. On Amazon’s website, where the Kindle Colorsoft is sitting at a 2.6-star average rating as of this writing, a large portion of both good and bad reviews point out the discoloration. Some say the yellow …

iPad Mini and Kindle Colorsoft are reading gadgets worth upgrading for

Hi, friends! Welcome to Installer No. 57, your guide to the best and Verge-iest stuff in the world. (If you’re new here, welcome, happy Kindle Season to all who celebrate, and also you can read all the old editions at the Installer homepage.)  This week, I’ve been reading about sports betting and designer proteins and the Ford Bronco, listening to Bon Iver’s new Sable and Brian Eno’s old Music for Airports on repeat, watching Archer and Unstable, desperately trying to find a better controller for the Nintendo Switch, and finally seriously making plans to build a whole seltzer system into my kitchen counter. It’s just time. I also have for you an unusually gadget-heavy week: new Kindles, new iPads, new retro game consoles, and much more. Oh, and I forgot to mention this last week, but The Verge is hiring for a couple of really cool jobs, including a senior tech editor and a deputy editor overseeing our reviews and commerce programs. You should apply! Can confirm this is an awesome place to work. And …
