Demand to augment comfortable public transport buses along NH 66 to reduce dependance on private vehicles

VIBHU With the four/six-laning of the Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod NH 66 expected to be completed in approximately a year’s time, demand is rife to augment public transport bus connectivity in the corridor to lessen the number of private vehicles on the stretch. On traffic snarls and accidents, a bulk of which occur on NH corridors, a senior Motor Vehicles department (MVD) official expressed concern over the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) not being able to rise to the occasion, despite the steep decline in the number of private buses in Kerala from 35,000 a decade ago to fewer than 10,000 at present. The KSRTC must purchase spacious, high-quality buses, while the State government must usher in competition on long-distance routes by permitting high-quality private buses to operate alongside its services, he added. Expressing concern over the alarming decline in the number of private buses and the loss-making KSRTC struggling to maintain its existing …

‘I feel like I’m playing against Federer every round’ — Alcaraz still in hunt at Indian Wells, but far from comfortable | Tennis News

2 min readMar 12, 2026 01:05 PM IST Carlos Alcaraz reached the round of 16 at the Indian Wells Masters 1000 on Monday but needed two hours and 18 minutes to beat Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, 6-2, coming from a set and a break down to do so. The world number one and top seed was troubled throughout by Rinderknech, ranked 28th, whose powerful serve, strong return game and effective net approaches allowed the Frenchman to control large stretches of the match. Rinderknech won a tight first set in a tiebreak after leading 5-2, and broke again at the start of the second before Alcaraz hit back immediately to level at 1-1, a reaction he said gave him the momentum to turn the match around. Speaking to the press afterwards, the 22-year-old Spaniard said he was increasingly frustrated by the pattern of opponents raising their game against him. “Sometimes I get tired of feeling like I’m playing against Roger Federer in every round,” he told reporters, as reported by Clarin. “Sometimes it seems …

India vs Sri Lanka: Jemimah Rodrigues puts on an offside masterclass as India return to action with a comfortable win in first T20I | Cricket News

On a night when Sri Lanka batters combined to hit nine fours, Jemimah Rodrigues, by herself, hit 10 during a sublime, unbeaten knock of 69 that guided India to a comfortable eight-wicket win in the first T20I at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The victory — the team’s first game since the 50-over World Cup final win in November — was effectively set up by a collective bowling display that restricted Chamari Athapaththu’s side to just 121/6. But the headlines will rightly belong to Jemimah for the class of her innings, with her offside strokeplay being a standout feature. Sri Lanka pacer Malki Madara thought it was a close call for caught behind when she bowled a 104.6kph delivery at a good length just outside the off stump, but Jemimah executed the perfect late cut – a shot she plays so well – for her first boundary of the innings. It set the tone for what was to follow from the Mumbaikar. In the post-match interview, when she was told maybe Sri Lanka …
