Commercial flight operations from the newly developed Noida International Airport are set to commence on Monday, marking a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s aviation infrastructure development.  Officials said domestic carrier IndiGo will be the first airline to launch scheduled services from the airport. According to the state government, the inaugural flight is scheduled to depart from Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow at 7:05 a.m. and arrive at the Jewar airport at 8:05 a.m. Following the inaugural service, the airport’s first regular commercial flight will operate to Bengaluru. Located in Gautam Buddh Nagar district within the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority area, the airport is considered one of the Uttar Pradesh government’s flagship infrastructure projects. Authorities expect the facility to strengthen the state’s position as a major aviation, logistics and connectivity hub. Officials said the first phase of the airport has been completed with the capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually. Photo: Special Arrangement Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited (NLCIL) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited has commenced Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) of Unit-3 (660 MW) of the 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project. According to NLCIL, the Unit-3 was successfully synchronised with the grid on April 3, 2026 marking a major milestone towards commissioning of the final unit of the project. The first coal firing was achieved on April 22. Subsequently, Unit-3 achieved Full Load Operation on May 6. The 72-hour full-load trial operation of the Unit-3 was completed successfully on June 13 in a smooth and uninterrupted manner, leading to the declaration of Commercial Operation effective from June 13, and marking the successful completion of NLCIL’s first supercritical thermal power project. Heavy-duty electric trucks in India are on the verge of achieving commercial cost parity with diesel vehicles, according to a report released on Thursday that positions battery electric trucks (BETs) as a viable option for the country’s long-haul freight sector. Electrification of trucks is key to decarbonising India’s transport sector in line with India’s broader net-zero ambitions as trucks contribute to around 50% of emissions. The report was developed by C40 Cities and The Climate Pledge. (Mint file photo) The report, Electrifying Indian Highways: A Guidance Framework for Zero-Emission Freight, developed by C40 Cities and The Climate Pledge, found that 55-tonne electric trucks currently have a total cost of ownership (TCO) only 3-4% higher than comparable diesel vehicles and are expected to achieve full parity within a year. For 14-tonne and 19-tonne truck segments, the cost gap currently ranges between 10% and 24%, but the report estimates these categories could reach parity within three to four years. According to Airport Director Girishchandra Verma, IndiGo and Star Air have stopped operating services from Gondia due to “technical and operational” reasons.
