Eight months after the crash of AI 171 in June 2025, an Air India Boeing 787-8 was grounded following its London to Bengaluru flight in February 2026. The reason: a faulty fuel control switch. (REUTERS) According to the ministry of civil aviation (MOCA), the aircraft was grounded after a report in the ‘Pilot Defect Report’ stated that the fuel control switch slipped from ‘RUN’ to ‘CUTOFF’ when it was pushed slightly. The report mentioned that the switch also did not lock positively in its selected position. Based on recommendations from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (read: Boeing), the airline inspected and functionally tested the fuel control switches (FCS) according to prescribed procedures. They found that the fuel control switch “was mechanically functioning as designed and considered the unit serviceable”. Aviation authorities also resolved to send a fuel control switch from the Boeing 787-8 to the US for further inspection, even though initial checks found no fault. …

Two days after the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) issued a show-cause notice and barred her from competing until June 2026, Vinesh Phogat asserted that the national federation has got the timeline of her “sabbatical” from the sport wrong. “I acknowledge receipt of the show cause notice dated 09.05.2026 issued by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to me,” Phogat said in a statement. “The WFI has misinterpreted the timelines of my sabbatical from sport and subsequent return to training and competitions. As opposed to the date stated by the WFI in their notice, i.e., June 26, 2026, I have been deemed eligible to return to official training and competition on January 1, 2026. “I have official confirmation from the International Testing Agency (ITA) the agency hired by the international federation UWW, the relevant international federation governing doping control for wrestling, pertaining to the same,” she added. Announcing the decision, IOC president Kirsty Coventry said it would ‘not be fair for biological males to compete in the female category.’ The IOC also added that athletes wanting to compete in the female category at the Olympics would have to undergo a one-time SRY gene screening. This would also apply to biological females. The SRY gene screening would be done via saliva, cheek swab or blood sample, the IOC said, adding that they are ‘unintrusive compared to other possible methods.’ The umbrella body for Olympic sports and national organisations said they ‘expect’ all international federations and National Olympic Committees, along with continental associations, to adopt and implement the policy.
