4 min readNew DelhiJun 17, 2026 01:00 AM IST When a relationship starts to unravel, the emotional toll it takes — especially in the presence of a child — can be immense. Rhea Pillai, who began dating tennis player Leander Paes in 2003 and had a daughter, Aiyana, with him in 2005, opened up years later about how strained their bond had become.  By 2012, things had reportedly deteriorated to the point of no return, and their legal conflict became public in 2014 when Rhea accused Leander and his father of emotional, mental, and physical abuse. In an old interview with Mumbai Mirror, Rhea shared, “Nothing was ever hunky dory. I was just saving my marriage for the sake of my child. I had made peace with myself but there came a point when I decided that we needed to separate. His ego couldn’t accept my decision.”  She also spoke about the emotional endurance it took to remain in the relationship, and the conflict that followed her decision to walk away. “Yes, Leander locked me …

Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code prevails over apex court rules in case of conflict: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has held that where the provisions of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) conflict with the Supreme Court Rules (SCR), the IBC must prevail, underlining that procedural rules cannot be used to dilute the strict timelines prescribed by Parliament for insolvency proceedings. The judgment came in an appeal filed by a liquidator challenging an order of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT). (PTI/File) A bench of justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma ruled that litigants cannot circumvent the rigid limitation regime under the IBC by filing defective appeals merely to save limitation and then curing defects at their convenience. Holding that the insolvency law is a “complete code in itself”, the court dismissed as time-barred an appeal filed by a liquidator after finding delays both in filing and re-filing the matter. “The SCR is the subordinate legislation in the field and whenever the IBC and the SCR clash, the latter cannot override the express provisions of the former. The IBC must prevail being the statutory edict,” held the bench in …

‘Busted myth of short and swift wars’: Navy chief on US-Iran conflict in West Asia

No service can fight a modern war alone, and only theaterisation can align the military’s strategic vision and capabilities, said Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, who retires on Sunday. Theaterisation— a long-awaited reform to integrate the military’s resources for future conflicts — seeks to maximise combat effectiveness across all domains of warfare: land, sea, air, cyber, space, and the cognitive realm, he said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, right, exchanges a handshake with outgoing Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi during a meeting. (@indiannavy/PTI) In an interview with HT, Tripathi spoke about several issues, including the urgent need for theatre commands for battlefield dominance, lessons from the war in West Asia, India’s maritime posture in the Indo-Pacific and the navy’s likely role if India launches Operation Sindoor 2.0. Why is it vital for India to roll out joint commands as soon as possible? Modern conflicts demand much closer integration of strategic thought and technological capability, making jointness an absolute necessity. Theaterisation is fundamentally about enhancing operational effectiveness, unity of effort, integrated …

The district administration helped in the resettlement process. Local MLA Paolienlal Haokip cut a ribbon to inaugurate the village for habitation. M. Sonsei Haokip, the Khodang village secretary, said the villagers fled and took refuge in a relief camp in Churachandpur, the district headquarters, when a mob set most of the houses ablaze. “We have 45 families here.
