The Indian Express spoke to students from Pune who expressed how many in their generation held progressive and open values. “Many boys of my age do not judge or make me uncomfortable as they believe I can behave as I want and they won’t even tease us,” said Roshni Khobragade, a 26-year-old management student at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), noting that it is the generation gap that often affects how older and younger people perceive women’s choices and relationships. Several male students echoed similar views, saying that women should be free to make their own decisions without being judged for their personal lives or past relationships. Anoushka Shankar recalls being harassed in public by man who ‘lifted’ her without consent | Music News

Veteran sitarist and musician Anoushka Shankar recently shared on social media a deeply distressing and chilling experience she had, where a man grabbed her without consent and lifted her into the air as she was interacting with a few fans after a show. Maintaining that the incident happened so fast, Anoushka said she didn’t even have time to process what was happening. She also pointed out that such incidents, in which one fails to offer a ‘fitting’ response, can cause them to gaslight themselves into believing that the other person’s actions were without ill intent. She also maintained that these violations could reopen even childhood wounds that one believed had been healed. “A man picked me up last weekend. I mean, he physically lifted me. He asked if he could, but didn’t wait for an answer before I found myself suspended in the air, clasped in a stranger’s bear hug, my feet dangling. I had been meeting a few fans after a show, and it all happened so fast. I laughed awkwardly and asked to …

Hansika Motwani and Sohael Khaturiya End Their Marriage Through Mutual Consent

Hansika Motwani, who married businessman Sohael Khaturiya in December 2022 has now officially parted ways with him. Speculation about trouble in their marriage had been circulating since last year, though the actress never publicly addressed it. The Bandra family court in Mumbai has now granted the couple a divorce after they filed for separation through a mutual consent petition. Reports suggest that Hansika chose not to claim any streedhan or alimony as part of the settlement. During the legal proceedings, Motwani was represented by advocate Adnan Shaikh. As per his statement, the couple lived together only for a short period after their wedding before realising that certain fundamental differences were impacting their relationship. Over time, differences in their temperaments, perspectives and lifestyles reportedly led to frequent disagreements. Eventually, the couple felt that parting ways would be the most practical decision for both of them. The petition also …

The couple, Shamshad Begum and Syed Iqbal Basha, blamed the investigating agencies for not booking the culprit 19 years into the incident. The clarification comes a week after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Vijayawada accepted a report by the investigating agency seeking closure of further proceedings in the case citing an absence of sustainable evidence and unwillingness of the parents to pursue additional remedies. Ms. Shamshad Begum said they have not given any consent for closure of the proceedings of the case. “We are not closing the case and will fight for justice,” Ayesha Meera’s mother told the media after receiving her daughter’s mortal remains here. The remains of the deceased’s body was exhumed by the CBI in 2019 for a re-post-mortem examination. “Such incidents shouldn’t repeat, and no …

4 min readNew DelhiUpdated: Feb 20, 2026 11:36 PM IST The Gujarat government’s move to mandate consent of parents for registration of a marriage flies in the face of constitutional rights of individuals that are routinely safeguarded by several court rulings. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO Agency and personal autonomy are key facets of Article 21 of the Constitution which guarantees the protection of life and personal liberty. This right has been interpreted by the Supreme Court to include the freedom to choose a partner without external interference. High Courts also routinely protect couples seeking police protection from their families. On February 16, the Gujarat High Court allowed a 16-year-old girl, who refused to return to her parents, to stay in government care. The minor’s parents had objected to her relationship with a boy of her choice, although the two were willing to wait to “attain marriageable age”. Speaking to The Indian Express, Senior Advocate Jayna Kothari said requiring parental consent is essentially an attempt to curb interfaith and intercaste marriages. “States have schemes promoting intercaste and …
