There remains a glimmer of hope for the construction of a 10.4-km-long elevated corridor from Madhavaram to Nallur toll plaza. Sources in the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that the project would be revived if the State government waived its portion of the Goods and Sales Tax (GST) for the proposed project.  “Around 60% of the cost would go towards materials, which attract GST and 9% on that is not much in terms of tax. The State government wants this project and so it would be their contribution towards the same. The land acquisition, if any, would be very minimal,” said a source.  In February this year, during a meeting held by the Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways with the Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, the NHAI accepted to take up the elevated corridor project, subject to a waiver of the State’s component of GST. Soon after visiting the site of the under-construction warehouse collapse, the chief minister said that the building plan sanctioned by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) was faulty and announced a citywide audit and on-site inspections of all under-construction projects. Addressing a press conference at Nabanna, the state secretariat, Adhikari said the building plan was sanctioned by the KMC on January 17, 2026, in the name of Shambhunath Behera, a partner of Behera Brothers. Founders N. Bhanumathidas and N. Kalidas, veterans in blended cement research, have developed concepts using irradiation to create ‘Irradiated Cementitious Construction Materials’ (ICCMs). By transforming industrial byproducts such as fly ash and rice husk ash into amorphised silica, they aim to produce high-strength concrete that could enhance grade strengths to 65-85 MPa, while offering a sustainable alternative to costly silica fume. INSWAREB is also advocating the application of its patented ‘Nano Concrete’ (NAC), developed in 2010, for the construction of nuclear shield walls. The institute says NAC’s densified microstructure, which eliminates traditional aggregates and the associated cracks at the interstitial transition zone, could offer superior radiation attenuation. A six-year-old boy died after falling into a septic tank at a house under construction at Manchathadukka Darga Road in Kasaragod on Sunday (June 7), triggering fresh concerns over safety lapses at construction sites. The victim, Mohammed Ayan Shasim, a UKG student, was the son of Ahmed Shajir and Ashyamma. According to reports, the child fell into the septic tank while playing near the construction site. Four labourers and two security guards were killed after a section of an under-construction bridge over the Betwa river collapsed during a storm in Hamirpur district early Friday, officials said. Police, district officials and an SDRF team reached the site overnight and carried out rescue operations till early morning. (Sourced) The incident occurred near Morakandar Parsari village under Lalpura police station limits, where a 700.9-metre bridge has been under construction at a cost of ₹92.52 crore for the past two years. According to officials, a pier, pillar number five, gave way along with its shuttering during strong winds and rain, bringing down nearly 110 metres of slab between pillars four, five and six. Seven workers were on the bridge carrying out wiring work when the structure collapsed around 3 am. Three survived after taking shelter inside a segment of the bridge as the weather worsened, while four others fell with the debris. The collapsing slab also buried two security guards posted below. The Expenditure and Finance Committee (EFC) chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has approved the construction of a modern medical college and hostel complex at the Indira Gandhi Hospital campus in West Delhi’s Dwarka at an estimated cost Rs 806 crore, officials said. According to officials, the government has set a target to complete the project by 2028. Gupta said the project will include a full-fledged medical college, separate hostels for male and female students, faculty housing and a modern academic block. “The initiative is expected to address the growing demand for doctors in the Capital while significantly strengthening healthcare services in Delhi,” said the CM. She added that the medical college will be developed in accordance with National Medical Commission (NMC) norms. It will accommodate 250 MBBS seats every year, officials said, adding that the teaching activities will begin with an initial batch of 150 students.
