MURALI KUMAR An Ayurvedic doctor on Saturday allegedly consumed poison in front of the Vidhana Soudha in the heart of the city, accusing the police of harassment. He was immediately shifted to Bowring Hospital and was out of danger, according to the police. The man has been identified as Nagendra S., aged around 40, a resident of north Bengaluru. The incident occurred around 11.15 a.m., opposite the Vidhana Soudha, amid heavy pedestrian movement. A police officer said that Nagendra had already consumed poison before arriving at the spot. He then called mediapersons and accused the police of harassing him for identifying and reporting what he claimed were ‘illegal Bangladeshi’ residents in the city and for lodging complaints about them. “He was making these claims while speaking to the mediapersons. A 55-year-old farmer, facing the loss of three acres of land to an industrial project at Channarayapatna in Devanahalli, allegedly consumed poison on Thursday during a protest against land acquisition. The farmer, identified as Venkatesh, was undergoing treatment at Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru. The protest, led by a group of farmers whose lands have been notified for acquisition under the third phase of an industrial project by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB), has been ongoing for over 1,000 days. The KIADB has notified 1,777 acres for acquisition. Since the notification was issued, farmers have been staging an indefinite sit-in, opposing the project. During the last Assembly elections, the protestors threatened to boycott the polls, prompting the government to promise to cancel the project, but it remained unfulfilled. Indore: A 42-year-old man’s condition deteriorated so much that he had to be hospitalised for a week after unknowingly consuming fish gall bladder in Indore, a doctor said on Wednesday. Dr Jai Singh Arora, a nephrologist at a private hospital here, told PTI that the man started throwing up and suffered from diarrhoea after he ate fish gall bladder without realising that he had ingested the organ that stores bile produced by the liver. His family thought it was a case of food poisoning until investigations pointed to something serious. Along with his serum creatinine, an indicator of kidney functions, the levels of two liver enzymes – SGOT and SGPT – had shot up dangerously, the doctor said. “The patient came to us in a critical condition. He was admitted to the hospital for a week. Even after this, his treatment continued. At present, he is healthy,” Arora said. The fish gall bladder contains a poisonous chemical called sodium cyprinol sulfate, which can rapidly damage the liver and kidneys if ingested by humans, he added. …

A Maharashtra`s Yavatmal farmer tried to end his life by consuming pesticide near the Maharashtra legislature complex in Nagpur on Tuesday, police said, reported the PTI. The news agency reported, the farmer was distressed over crop loss and mounting debts.  The Police, however, acted quickly and rushed him to the hospital. He has been kept under observation, said inspector Narendra Hiwre of Sitabuldi police station.The winter session of the Maharashtra legislature is currently underway at the Vidhan Bhavan in Nagpur, as per the PTI. The farmer was identified as Sachin Uttam Bahadure (29), a resident of Murat Jahangir, tehsil Mahagaon. He arrived at the Samvidhan square around 11 am and drank from a bottle of pesticide concealed under the shirt, the official said.
