Indian squads announced for Boxing & Athletics – Complete contingent

With less than 40 days left for the Commonwealth Games 2026, countries have started announcing their squads for the event. India has also begun unveiling its contingent for the Games, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23rd to August 2nd. This year’s Commonwealth Games will feature only 10 sports. The reduced programme comes after the original host, the Australian state of Victoria, withdrew from hosting the event in 2023 due to financial concerns. Scotland later stepped in and opted for a smaller and more cost-effective edition of the Games. The 10 sports at Glasgow 2026 are: Athletics and Para Athletics, Swimming and Para Swimming, 3×3 Basketball and Wheelchair Basketball, Boxing, Track Cycling and Para Cycling, Artistic Gymnastics, Judo, Lawn Bowls and Para Bowls, Netball, and Weightlifting and Para Powerlifting. India has so far announced squads for Athletics and Boxing. Boxing India’s boxing squad was announced in May following the national trials in Patiala. Indian boxing, archery teams announced – Complete Indian contingent

With the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan just months away the process to select the Indian contingent for the quadrennial event is fast heating up. The national trials for selection of the Indian team have already been conducted in sports like Boxing and Archery, whereas athletes have already started breaching the qualification standard set by the federations in sports like Athletics. Meanwhile, sports like Judo, Swimming and others are expected to host the selection trials very soon. So far, the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and the Archery Association of India (AAI) have announced the Indian teams for the 2026 Asian Games. There have been a few upsets as well in both the teams with veterans like Nikhat Zareen, Deepika Kumari, Atanu Das and others missing out. So far with the boxing and archery teams announced, the Indian contingent stands at 23 athletes. 31-member Indian contingent to battle across 4 sports – Preview

India is geared up for this year’s first major multi-sport mega event, sending a 31-player contingent to the Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China, from April 22 to 30. This will be the sixth edition of the Asian Beach Games, which are returning to the international calendar after a decade-long wait, since the 2016 edition in Da Nang, Vietnam. The games feature 62 medal events across 14 sports, including many unique sports like Aquathlon, Beach Handball, Teqball and Beach Kabaddi. India had won 46 medals, including 12 gold medals, from the first five editions, and this time will compete in 18 medal events across four sports: 3×3 Basketball, Beach Kabaddi, Beach Wrestling, and Sailing. Beach Kabaddi has been the most successful sport for India, having won seven gold medals so far – All five in the women’s and 2 golds in the men’s edition. India will once again take centre stage in global para sport as the second edition of the New Delhi World Para Athletics Grand Prix takes place from March 11-13, bringing together around 257 athletes from eight nations for a high-profile international competition in New Delhi. The event will feature athletes from India, Russia, Nepal, Bhutan, Hong Kong, Serbia, Bosnia, and Egypt, highlighting the growing international presence of para athletics in India. Team India will field the largest contingent, with approximately 219 athletes competing across multiple track-and-field events and sport classifications. India’s top para-athletes are expected to compete at the Grand Prix, including Paralympic gold medallist Mariyappan Thangavelu, Paralympic champion and world record holder Sumit Antil, and Paralympic gold medallist Praveen Kumar. Indian wrestlers are set to begin their international season with the first Ranking Series event of the year, the Zagreb Open in Croatia, to be held from February 4 to 8. Following the much-welcomed return of the Pro Wrestling League (PWL), the young wrestlers are now geared up to showcase the skills and experience they gained from the league on the global stage. India will send a 41-member contingent to the event, including experienced campaigners such as Sujeet Kalkal, Manisha Bhanwala, Aman Sehrawat and two-time world medallist Antim Panghal. A new start for Indian wrestling The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) is also aiming to provide strong international exposure to young wrestlers and has therefore entered multiple athletes across the Olympic weight categories. Just a week ahead of the opening ceremony, the Delhi High Court has directed the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Indian Olympic Association, and the ad-hoc committee of Ski and Snow Federation of India to add cross country skier Manjeet into the Indian contingent for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Manjeet had filed a writ petition in the Delhi High Court last week, alleging that he was overlooked in favour of Stanzin Lundup to represent India at the quadrennial games despite being higher ranked. Manjeet, in his prayer to the court, had requested that his name be added in the Indian contingent for the 2026 Winter Olympics and his exclusion be termed “arbitrary, illegal, and violative of Articles 14 and 21 of the Constitution of India.” In a judgement pronounced on Friday after hearing all the involved parties, the Delhi High Court noted that the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and the ad-hoc committee running Ski and Snowboard India (SSI) had failed in its duties.
