‘Warned months ago, ignored’, say air traffic controllers after Delhi airport glitch: Report

The recent system failure at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday may not have been entirely unforeseen, an organisation of air traffic controllers reportedly said. The group claims that Delhi airport authorities were warned about such vulnerabilities months ago. Union Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu reviews operations after the technical glitch in the ATC messaging system at Delhi airport.(PTI) According to an NDTV report, ATC Guild of India, an organisation representing air traffic controllers, flagged the need for upgrades to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) back in July, emphasising that the existing automation systems were outdated and in urgent need of upgradation. However, they alleged their suggestions were not acted upon. The guild said they also wrote to MPs on July 8, following the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad that killed 260, and emphasised that “it is essential that the automation systems used in air navigation services are reviewed and upgraded periodically,” the publication reported. The system should be upgraded to international standards, they said. What did the air traffic controllers …

I’ve tested the latest Switch 2 controllers, and this one is the best

I’ve tested the latest Switch 2 controllers, and this one is the best

If you choose to get an extra controller for your Nintendo Switch 2, you can spend a lot — and get a lot in return. Buying Nintendo’s own $89.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller, for instance, will net you the console’s only wireless controller with a 3.5mm headphone jack, not to mention great rumble, OS-level rear button customization, and a slick design. It’s not perfect, but it’s the total package. But it’d be a disservice to you to call it a day there. There are several third-party offerings that are significantly cheaper, yet don’t make too many compromises in terms of features. I’ve spent time testing a handful of them, and there’s a small batch of models that I think will satisfy most people, with a range of styles, prices, and features. Every controller I’ve included in this guide is compatible with both the Switch 2 and original Switch (some can even remotely wake the Switch 2), as well as platforms like PC and mobile. Each offering also includes better, longer-lasting joystick technology than you’ll get …

Xbox Wireless Controllers are just right now

Xbox Wireless Controllers are just $39 right now

Of the three major gaming consoles, the Xbox Series X / S may have the most diverse controller selection, but Microsoft’s basic Xbox Wireless Controller is still the best Xbox controller for most people. That’s mostly because it’s the cheapest one you can buy with native support for Xbox’s built-in wireless protocol (you can also use it with PC and mobile via Bluetooth or USB-C), but it’s also just really solid overall. It’s hard to beat the value, especially when they’re on sale for as low as $39, just a few dollars more than their all-time low, as they are in select colors at Amazon and Walmart right now. That’ll get you the basic crop of colors such as black, white, and blue. You can spend a bit more to get the awesome translucent models, which are starting at $57.50 (about $12 off) at Amazon and Walmart. The Xbox Wireless Controller isn’t loaded with fancy features and gimmicks like newer, more expensive controllers. You can’t easily remove or replace any of its parts, for example, …

The Switch 2 has a new trigger for disconnecting Joy-Con controllers

The Switch 2 has a new trigger for disconnecting Joy-Con controllers

In the video, the trigger is pressed down a tad before a final push releases it from the console. As the Joy-Con moves away, you can also see a small cylinder receding back into the top part of the inside of the controller; to me, that indicates that when you push the trigger, you’re actually pushing out that cylinder to help bump the Joy-Con out. Here’s a GIF of the relevant part of the video: GIF by Andrew Liszewski / The Verge The mechanism to remove the Joy-Con controllers looks similar to what was included in a 3D-printed mockup that accessories-maker Genki brought to CES. Nintendo Switch 2: Magnetic controllers, backward compatibility and everything else we know far | Technology News

Nintendo Switch 2: Magnetic controllers, backward compatibility and everything else we know far | Technology News

Nintendo is expected to announce its next handheld gaming console – the Switch 2 in the next few hours. If you have been following news about the much-anticipated console, there’s very little that would come as a surprise. We already know that the Switch 2, or whatever Nintendo decides to name it, will be able to run most if not all games available on Switch and that it will have a much more powerful chipset compared to the now seven-year-old handheld. Bigger screen and Joy-Con controllers The biggest change we will see with the Switch 2 may be  how the Joy-Con controllers connect to the console’s body. Compared to the current implementation, where the controllers slot into the body using a rail system, the upcoming console is said to feature electromagnetic connectors, which should make it easier to attach them. As indicated by Genki’s recent 3D model, the Switch 2 may be bigger in size than the current model, and as a result, the size of the Joy-Con is expected to increase as well. OLED …

Sony is still slashing prices on consoles, controllers, and more for the holidays

Sony is still slashing prices on consoles, controllers, and more for the holidays

Black Friday and Cyber Monday may be over, but Sony’s ongoing holiday sale lives on, giving you a chance to save on various PlayStation 5 consoles, games, and accessories through January 2nd. Now until December 25th, for example, you can save up to $75 on the newer PS5 “slim” (now $424 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target) and the PS5 Digital Edition (now $374 at Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart). If you already have a PS5 and are looking for new ways to play, the PlayStation VR 2 is currently on sale at Amazon, Best Buy, and Target with Horizon Call of the Mountain for $349 ($250 off), which may be tempting. The virtual reality headset is easy to set up and offers excellent PC-grade immersion, though its lineup still remains somewhat limited nearly two years after its release. Not into VR? It’s also a great time to pick up extra controllers, gaming headsets, and other PS5 accessories. Now until December 13th, Sony’s standard DualSense Wireless Controller is on sale for as low as $54 ($21 …

Apple and Sony are working on Vision Pro support for PSVR2 controllers

Apple and Sony are working on Vision Pro support for PSVR2 controllers

The Vision Pro could gain support for Sony PSVR2 controllers soon, according to Mark Gurman in today’s Power On newsletter for Bloomberg. Apple and Sony apparently planned to announce support for the controllers “weeks ago” but have pushed back the rollout. Under this rumored partnership, Apple would begin selling Sony’s controllers, which aren’t currently available on their own. Sony has apparently been working on adding the support for months, while Apple has asked third-party developers if they would take advantage of Sony’s VR controllers. That’s potentially great news for Vision Pro owners who wish the headset had more gaming chops. (There are precious few good, native visionOS games — Thrasher, a mesmerizing game where you fling a giant worm / dragon thing around a psychadelic space using just hand movements, comes to mind.) Gurman writes that Apple also wants to use the controllers for more than gaming — the controllers will be able to navigate visionOS, and would offer more precise controls in apps like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Photoshop. Right now, you can …

Andy Murray jokes that Rafael Nadal throws PS controllers after losing

Andy Murray jokes that Rafael Nadal throws PS controllers after losing

The curtains came down on Rafael Nadal’s career after the Spanish star’s defeat to Botic van de Zandschulp in the David Cup quarterfinals clash between Spain and the Netherlands. The 22-time Grand Slam champion was given a farewell to remember. The on-court, post-match ceremony to honor Nadal featured video highlights from his storied career besides recorded tributes from tennis players like Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Serena Williams besides stars from other sports like David Beckham. But what took the cake was Andy Murray’s tribute. While praising Nadal, Murray highlighted how the Spaniard was a rare tennis player to throw his tennis racquet. Rafael Nadal’s illustrious career came to an end with a defeat in a Davis Cup quarter-finals tie on Tuesday. (Reuters) “We’ve also learned so much from you over the years about humility, hard work, and respect for everybody. You are probably the only tennis player ever to have never thrown a racket in anger, which is incredible,” Murray said in the video before cheekily adding: “However, this wasn’t the case when you would …

The best Nintendo Switch controllers for 2024

The best Nintendo Switch controllers aren’t the ones that come with it. While the removable Joy-Cons included with all non-Lite Switch consoles are convenient given they can be detached for wireless use, their tiny contourless design isn’t that comfortable for long gaming sessions or large hands. And while Nintendo has taken steps to address the dreaded Joy-Con drift and earlier quality control problems, some issues persist. In this buying guide, we focus on wireless controllers that are both comfortable and reliable, as well as a few options that come with unique features designed to match your play style. We’re not covering wired controllers that plug into the Switch’s dock, as they’re almost all the same and don’t offer substantial savings in many cases. (PowerA and PDP make decent ones that will do in a pinch, but they’re very basic. Unless you detest recharging your controllers, it makes more sense to go wireless.) Also, if you buy a third-party wireless controller (as in, one not made by Nintendo), there are certain things that it likely won’t …
