‘They drew India who then got thumped by South Africa’: Alastair Cook slams McCullum and Stokes for ‘massive disconnect’ with County cricket | Cricket News

Former England captain Alastair Cook has said that the team management has to address what he calls a “massive disconnect” between the side and the country’s domestic County circuit. Cook, speaking on TNT Sports at Lunch on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test in the Ashes, said that England under captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum have stopped rewarding good performances in County cricket, which needs to be addressed. “They started off with a bang, Key (England team managing director Rob Key), McCullum and Stokes but since then it has gone downhill,” said Cook about the start that the current management had in which they didn’t lose all seven of their first seven Test series, winning five of them. England’s first series loss in the Stokes-McCullum regime was a 4-1 defeat away to India. In fact, the current management have only lost one more series apart from that, which was away from home to Pakistan earlier this year. That defeat was then followed by a remarkable 2-1 series win in New Zealand, followed …

LA County sheriff investigating new sex battery claim against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs A male music producer and publicist said he was asked to come to a photo shoot in 2020 at a Los Angeles warehouse, where Combs exposed himself while masturbating and told the accuser to assist, according to NBC News, citing a police report. Combs then tossed a dirty shirt at the man, the producer said. The accuser, whose name is redacted in the police report, said he did not tell anyone for several years because he felt embarrassed. He came forward to police in Largo, Florida, this September, shortly after Combs was convicted on other charges. Combs’ lawyer did not immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press …

Huge Worry For Australia Ahead Of WTC Final. This Star Badly Out Of Form In County Cricket

Huge Worry For Australia Ahead Of WTC Final. This Star Badly Out Of Form In County Cricket

Marnus Labuschagne’s blueprint to get valuable game time before Australia’s high-stakes World Test Championship final against South Africa next was scuppered yet again. Labuschagne, who appeared in his first of two County Championship fixtures for Glamorgan, continued to endure a dry spell with his bat in the second innings after a flop show in the first. The former world number one Test batter turned his focus to get some time on the crease before the blockbuster fixture against the Proteas, scheduled to take place from June 11. He joined County side Glamorgan for their two fixtures, looking to get a hang of the English conditions a bit early before Australia turns up to defend the prized WTC mace. After a duck in the first innings, Labuschagne continued his search for the purple patch after Glamorgan lost Zain ul Hassan cheaply in pursuit of a paltry 66-run target against Northamptonshire. Labuschagne lasted just eight deliveries as Ben Sanderson brought the curtains down on his innings and punched his return ticket on just 4(8). In …

England Great James Anderson Shines On County Return, Takes Two Wickets

James Anderson in action© X (Twitter) England great James Anderson took two wickets for Lancashire on Saturday, nearly a year on from his emotional Test farewell at Lord’s. The most successful fast bowler in Test history, with his 704 wickets a record for any England cricketer at that level, Anderson had not played a competitive match since his international swansong against the West Indies at Lord’s last June. The 42-year-old has since worked as a bowling consultant with the England team, while also repeatedly insisting he still had something to offer as a player Anderson signed a new one-year deal with his native Lancashire earlier this year, but missed the first five games of the County Championship season with a calf injury. He needed just 18 balls on Saturday, however, to get back among the wickets, with Anderson dismissing Caleb Jewell.  After Lancashire — who started this round of matches bottom of the Second Division, having yet to win a Championship match this season – posted 458 all out before tea on the …

Virat Kohli To Play County Cricket? Huge Invitation Stirs Interest: “Having That Conversation…”

File image of Virat Kohli.© AFP Virat Kohli‘s retirement from Test cricket has begun speculation over what forms of cricket might he play next, and some interesting suggestions have popped up. With the legendary Indian batter now only being actively involved only in ODI cricket and franchise cricket in the IPL, Kohli has received an invitation to play the County Championship in England. Kohli, unlike several legendary Indian cricketers, has never played County cricket in England. Alan Coleman, the director of the Middlesex County Cricket Club, has shown interest. “Virat Kohli is the most iconic player of his generation, so of course we are interested in having that conversation,” said Coleman to The Guardian. Kohli was previously set to play for Surrey ahead of India’s tour of England in 2018. However, he was ruled out of the stint due to a neck injury. The likes of South Africa’s AB de Villiers and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson have played domestic cricket in England in recent years, appearing in the T20 Blast and The Hundred …

Will Virat Kohli play for English county Middlesex? | Cricket News

The report points out how while Kohli announced his retirement from Tests, he didn’t mention anything about retiring from first-class cricket. Alan Coleman, director of cricket at Middlesex, is quoted as saying: “Virat Kohli is the most iconic player of his generation, so of course we are interested in having that conversation.” It notes that Kohli could play either “county championship or one-day cup”. Middlesex have used the lure of Lord’s cricket ground, their home arena, to attract big-name players in the past. South Africa’s AB de Villiers turned up for the T20 Blast in 2019, and they have signed up New Zealand’s Kane Williamson for the second half of this season to play for the team London Spirit. The Guardian reports that both those deals came with collaboration with MCC and has a line about how they handle the payments. “Officials there (MCC) have indicated they would be happy to similarly split the cost of any deal for Kohli”. Their hope seems to be that Kohli will love to play at Lord’s again, popularly …

WATCH: Lancashire player drops mobile phone while batting in County cricket, courts controversy and hilarious social media response | Cricket News

Things have been a little muggy at the start of the ongoing County Championship season at Old Trafford in Manchester for Lancashire. The home side has slumped to three defeats in as many outings before finding some footing in the latest fixture against Gloucestershire, but not without leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for some (probably) harmless fun on the field. Given all the marathon batting by his teammates in the top-order for over a day’s play, Tom Bailey, perhaps, was a touch too absent-minded when he strode out to bat at No. 10, with the score having nudged past 400. In a video clip that has gone viral on social media, the 34-year-old seamer, a few scalps short of touching 400 in his First-Class career, is seen dropping his mobile phone (yes) while attempting his first runs off Gloucestershire pacer Josh Shaw in the 114th over. Reeling in the second run after a neat flick down towards fine-leg, Bailey dropped the phone at the non-striker’s, a few feet away from the umpire. Story continues below …
