Train mows down 13 cows in Palakkad

Thirteen cows were mowed down by a train near Muthalamada railway station on Saturday. The incident happened near Meenkara dam in the morning when Chennai-Palakkad Express (22651) train hit the cows that stood on the tracks on the Palakkad-Pollachi route. Railways officials said the cows could not move out of the tracks even after the train blared its horn because their front legs were tied to the neck. The train resumed its journey after removing the carcasses and their parts. Railway has begun an investigation into the incident. Officials said they were inquiring about those who let their cattle graze on the tracks. Miscreants slash udders and stab legs of three cows in Bengaluru

In a shocking incident of cruelty to animals, miscreants slashed the udders and stabbed the legs of three cows, which were resting by the street side at Pension Mohalla, Chamarajpet, here on Saturday night, leaving them writhing in pain in a pool of blood. The incident came to light on Sunday morning when passers-by found the cows moaning in pain and bleeding and alerted the owner, Karna, reportedly a Hindutva activist in the area. The incident soon took a political turn with several BJP leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly R. Ashok, rushing to the spot and condemning the incident. Hundreds gathered in the area. While the miscreants are yet to be identified, BJP leaders and Hindutva organisations termed it an act of “Jihadi terror”. “This is a deliberate terrorist act aimed to create fear in the community. If the State government doesn’t apprehend the miscreants in two days, we will observe a ‘Black Sankranthi’ across the State,” Mr. Ashok said. Following their protests, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. …

Of Phillip Hughes’ love for cows, to look million dollars and rise in the game, former team-mate recalls memories | Cricket News

While the cricketing world waits to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the passing away of Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes later this month, Tom Cooper, one of his South Australia’s team-mates has recalled how Hughes was fascinated by the idea of having a farm raising cows and would also have to look million dollars. In a chat with Codesports, Cooper, a former South Australia batsman recalled about his days spent with Hughes and how the Australian Test cricketer once celebrated one of his cows’ wins at a competition after posting a ton in a domestic game at MCG. “Coops, get your clothes on, we’re going out. My heifer’s just won at the Macksville Show!” So we were out because one of his cows had just won first prize, not because he’d just peeled off a hundred. He had the bling and loved the bright lights. But he talked with his mum and dad daily. Everything was about his cows. He had his farm setup. He talked about that more than he talked about cricket. If his …
