Hariharan: “You cannot stop machines from doing what they are created for”

Your new album Jaan Meri marks 50 years of your journey as a ghazal singer. Do you remember the first ghazal that you sang? Singer Hariharan (Marketing Mojito) That’s right; these 50 years have passed by so quickly! I am grateful to God and my audience for all the love they have given me. And yes, I clearly remember the ghazal that I started with: “Hasti apni habab ki si hai/ yeh numaish sarab ki si hai” by Mir Taqir Mir. Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan Sahab, my guru from the Rampur-Sahaswan gharana taught me this and so many other beautiful ghazals. This musical training has been a blessing in my life. Both my sons are involved in Jaan Meri. Akshay is the music producer. Karan has acted in the music video that accompanies one of the songs, Baat Se Baat. This makes me a proud father. Poetry is the soul of ghazal gayiki. What was it like to work with Farhat Shahzad, who has written the lyrics for this album? Words are chosen carefully for …

RGV on working with Asha Bhosle in Rangeela: ‘Asha ji’s playful sensuality, mischievous energy and unimaginable vocal range created pure cinematic magic’ | Bollywood News

At the start of Rangeela, AR Rahman announced his arrival in Hindi cinema with the pulsating opening of the title track, “Rangeela Re.” But he was sounding the bugle not just for himself, but also for choreographer Ahmed Khan, as Hindi film audiences had never seen that kind of street-style choreography on screen before. Nor had they experienced the dreamy visual language of a Ram Gopal Varma film. Urmila Matondkar, once the bright child actor from Shekhar Kapur’s Masoom (1983), burst onto the screen here, announcing her transition into a confident leading lady. There was only one voice at the start of Rangeela — strikingly familiar yet rebelliously raw — that served as a reassuring nod to a disoriented audience transported into a whole new world. “Yaayi re, yaayi re, zorr laga ke nache re,” sang the then-62-year-old Asha Bhosle, who breathed her last today. She invited the audience to embrace the new, just like she had done in each of the five decades she had made a mark in since her debut in 1943. …

Asha Bhosle created cinematic magic redefining film music’s rebellious spirit| India News

Today, on the passing of my all-time favourite singer, the legendary Asha Bhosle ji, I find myself reflecting deeply. In Rangeela, it was Rahman who composed the music, but it was Asha ji’s voice that infused it with an immortal soul and raw, youthful fire. ‘Rangeela Re’ wasn’t just a song; it was a thunderclap that shook Bollywood. (AFP/File) Urmila’s electrifying moves on the raw, pulsating streets of Mumbai fused seamlessly with Asha ji’s playful sensuality, mischievous energy, and unimaginable vocal range, creating pure cinematic magic that redefined the rebellious spirit of film music. I remember her walking into the studio with the poise of a queen, yet carrying the wide-eyed, childlike curiosity of a newcomer hungry to experiment with a new-age music director like Rahman. One take, a small adjustment in phrasing or emotion, and the magic flowed like a torrential storm. Coincidentally, today marks the 24th anniversary of her track ‘Khallas’ from my film ‘Company’, starring fiery Isha Koppikar. That …

Priyadarshan says Aditya Dhar has created ‘historic revolution’ with Dhurandhar: ‘He will be remembered like Sholay’s makers’ | Bollywood News

2 min readKochiMar 30, 2026 04:50 PM IST Unlike usual blockbusters, whose fanbases mostly consist of the general public, director Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar franchise has also managed to impress a large number of film professionals, including highly revered actors and filmmakers, thus ranking among the most influential Bollywood movies in recent times. Among the many celebrities who have stepped forward to laud Aditya and the spy actioner’s team is ace filmmaker Priyadarshan, who has been endorsing the franchise since the first installment’s release in December 2025. Pointing out that the Dhurandhar movies have thrown Bollywood out of gear, Priyadarshan recently noted that Aditya proved that success is tied solely to the director’s conviction, not to any conventional norms stipulated by the industry. “Today, Aditya is motivating me. I never taught him anything, but he learnt while working. He is motivating me through his work,” he said during a conversation with Hindustan Times. For the unversed, Aditya served as a dialogue writer in Priyadarshan’s films Aakrosh (2010) and Tezz (2012) before making it big in the …

Rs 1.75 lakh, a First Blood-inspired script, and a DIY T-shirt: The making of Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi, the film that created a ‘Mega Star’ | Telugu News

Rs 1.75 lakh, a First Blood-inspired script, and a DIY T-shirt: The making of Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi, the film that created a ‘Mega Star’ | Telugu News

Every now and then, a film arrives that does not just perform well at the box office but fundamentally rewrites what is expected of its lead. In Telugu cinema, that film was Khaidi. Released on October 28, 1983, it was not the most expensive production of its year, it did not have the biggest name behind the camera, and Chiranjeevi himself was paid just Rs. 1.75 lakh for his work in it. What it gave him in return was everything. Before Khaidi, Chiranjeevi had been building a career steadily and quietly. He had appeared in supporting roles, worked his way into lead parts, and earned critical recognition for films like Subhalekha, directed by K. Viswanath, which tackled the dowry system. He was, by any measure, a capable and respected actor. But capability and stardom are two very different things, and Khaidi was the film that collapsed the wall between them. The story behind the film began when producer M. Tirupathi Reddy had seen the American film First Blood, released in 1982, and asked the Paruchuri …
