Pizhala bridge link road, electric crematorium to be opened on May 9

The much-awaited Pizhala–Moolampilly bridge link road and an electric crematorium at Kadamakkudy will be inaugurated on May 9, 2025, by Minister for Local Self-Government M.B. Rajesh. The 350-metre road, which will serve as the sole access to the Pizhala–Moolampilly bridge for the islanders, will play a key role in the lives of residents of Pizhala island. The road was built at a cost of ₹1.94 crore. K.N. Unnikrishnan, MLA, will preside over the inauguration of the approach road and the electric crematorium, and panchayat president Mary Vincent will be among those present on the occasion. The electric crematorium has been constructed at a cost of ₹1.17 crore. The new link road also serves as the primary approach road to the Pizhala–Chennur–Chariyamthuruth road, the Container Terminal Road (NH 966A) in the south, and National Highway 17 in the north. It is also the key access route to the Chennur–Kothad bridge, Valiya kadamakkudy–Chathanad bridge, Pizhala–Kadamakkudy bridge, and the Pizhala–Cheriya kadamakkudy bridge, according to an official communication here. Mr. Kumar’s initiative, Appan Pathshala, has transformed the lives of these underprivileged children, offering them a chance to break the cycle of poverty and pursue their dreams. The cremation ground, Mukti Dham, located in Sikandarpur, is an unlikely location for a school. However, Mr. Kumar’s determination to provide education to the marginalised community has made this unconventional space a beacon of hope. The school operates from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Saturday, with Mr. Kumar teaching children from Classes 1 to 10, aged 5-16. Mr. Kumar’s journey began in 2017 when he visited the cremation ground to attend the funeral of his friend’s grandfather. Rohit Bal dies: Friends and admirers of Rohit Bal gathered alongside his family to pay their final respects to the designer who played a pivotal role in bringing Indian fashion to the global stage. Bal, one of India’s most celebrated fashion designers, died on November 1 at a south Delhi hospital following a heart attack at the age of 63. He was cremated at the Lodhi Road crematorium today (November 2). His funeral was attended by Sunil Sethi, the president of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), actor-model Arjun Rampal, designers JJ Valaya, Varun Bahl and Rohit Gandhi. The designer’s mortal remains were kept at his Defence Colony residence, where many prominent personalities paid their last respects. The mortal remains of iconic industrialist Ratan Tata will be kept at Mumbai’s NCPA Lawns to allow the masses to pay their last respects to the legend. The industrialist’s remains will be available for the public from 10.30 am onwards. NCPA Lawns are located in Mumbai’s Nariman Point. Legendary ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas passed away on Monday, February 26, following a prolonged illness. He was laid to rest in the Hindu Crematorium at Mumbai’s Worli. The ghazal legend was given a final farewell with full state honours. Pankaj Udhas’ mortal remains were brought from his residence wrapped in the tricolour. Bands and troops gave him a heroic farewell with a gun salute. Several celebrities came to pay their last respects to the ghazal maestro. Tunisha Sharma was found dead on the sets of her TV show Ali Baba Dastaan-E-Kabul on December 24. The actor, who had worked in television and films, played Shehzaadi Mariam on the fantasy adventure series. On Tuesday, the 20-year-old’s body was brought to Bhayandar for her last rites. Her former co-stars and members of the industry Shivin Narang, Vishal Jethwa and Kanwar Dhillon also visited the Sharma home to offer their condolences to Tunisha’s family. Avneet Kaur and Reem Shaikh also arrived to pay their condolences at the crematorium.
