Former India pacer opens about team parties

Former India pacer opens about team parties

2 min readMar 19, 2026 06:38 PM IST Glamorous team parties have been in vogue in Indian cricket ever since the IPL rose in popularity over the last two decades. Post-match celebrations weren’t exactly boring before the IPL’s inception either, not if one could get a senior like Rahul Dravid to dance and even find out he was good at it too. Former India pacer S Sreesanth opened up on the team party culture in Indian cricket ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Reflecting on his early playing days with the national side, Sreesanth said that a heft of veterans meant the party culture was a bit of a bore, until they got Dravid to shake a leg. “It was the opposite in our times. Two or three would sleep, and the rest would party. Sachin paaji would sleep soon, and Rahul Dravid also sometimes. Ganguly would always be in the room. We would sometimes force Rahul Dravid. Like if it was a big series, like we beat Pakistan in Pakistan under his captaincy, it …

Champions Trophy | SA vs ENG: As Jos Buttler moves on, he hopes to take a leaf out of Joe Root’s book | Cricket News

Sunil Gavaskar’s anecdote about the time Sir Viv Richards sledged him on the field is quite familiar to most cricket fans. But, a quick refresher: The only time in his career that Gavaskar batted at No 4 in a Test – in 1983 against West Indies in Chennai – India lost two wickets in the first over bowled by Malcolm Marshall. “I managed to avoid the hat-trick and at the end of the over Viv ran past me and said, ‘Hey, no matter, no matter, no matter what number you bat, man, the score is still zero’,” he says, the last part with a Caribbean accent. England’s decision to move Joe Root to No 4 in ICC Champions Trophy has been somewhat similar. Before the tournament, England took the call to play keeper-bat Jamie Smith at No 3 – where Root had played 63% in his ODI career – to have more dynamism in the top order and to have Root anchor the middle order. But, no matter what, he has come out to bat …

IND vs PAK: Inzy to Imam…Run-outs go retro and run in the family | Cricket News

IND vs PAK: Inzy to Imam…Run-outs go retro and run in the family | Cricket News

While commentator Wasim Akram was asked about Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq’s run out in the tenth over with an Axar Patel throw striking similarly to his former team-mate and Haq’s uncle Inzamam-ul-Haq run-outs in his career, Akram and Sunil Gavaskar were bantering over the run-out tendency running in the ul Haq family. The trend goes back to the 90s. Notable was Pakistan’s group match against Australia at Headingley, Leeds in the 1999 ODI World Cup. A yorker from Damien Fleming in the 47th over of Pakistan’s innings had seen Inzy stuttering and falling over just outside the crease. Non-striker Wasim Akram ran towards the striker’s end with Haq being run out by Fleming. Akram had shared the incident multiple times in the past and recalled Haq’s words to him. “Wasim bhai, aap yahan kahan (Wasim, where are you here)?” Akram had told the media earlier. A day prior to the Champions Trophy face-off, when asked by Navjot Singh Sidhu about the incident and Akram’s take on the incident, Inzy was quick to answer, ‘We decided that we …

India vs Bangladesh T20I series: Venue where Sachin Tendulkar hit the first-ever ODI double hundred has become a forgotten relic | Cricket News

Gwalior’s Captain Roop Singh Stadium is named after a hockey legend, the brother of wizard Dhyan Chand, but as far as cricket is concerned, it’s forever linked with batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. It was at this venue where Tendulkar scored the first-ever double hundred in ODIs, against South Africa on February 24, 2010, in fact the last international game here. The dilapidated condition of the stadium is evident. The big scoreboards are rusted, the three-legged floodlights have not been used for ages, the pavilions are dusty, the stands are in tatters, and the less said about the heptagon-shaped ground the better. But the venue still takes pride in its significant connection with a legend of the game. Now, all the activity was at the new Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium where India will play Bangladesh in the first of three T20Is on Sunday. If one searches for ‘Sachin Tendulkar’s 200 in ODIs’ on YouTube, one would hear Ravi Shastri’s booming voice: “First man on the planet to reach 200. And it’s the superman from India, …

Yuvraj Singh’s Embarrassing Flip Flop Mishap on Australia Tour

Ahead of Indian cricket team’s tour of Australia, former India star Yuvraj Singh has revealed that he was once left embarrassed after needing to travel with the Indian cricket team while wearing his then girlfriend’s pink flip flops which were a few sizes too small. Yuvraj revealed this on the Club Prairie Fire podcast with Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan. He elaborated on how he had ended up in the embarrassing situation. “I was dating an actress, I won’t name her. (She is) very good at the moment and very experienced. She was shooting in Adelaide. I told her, listen, let’s not meet for a bit because I’m on Australia tour, and I need to focus. But she followed me to Canberra in the bus. “In two Tests, I didn’t get many runs. And I was like, ‘what are you doing here?’ And she was like, ‘I want to spend time with you,’” Yuvraj said while speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast. “So, I met her in the night and we began chatting. I …
