Neeraj Chopra is set to begin his 2026 season at the Doha Diamond League on Friday after spending several months recovering from injuries. Speaking at the official pre-event press conference on the eve of the competition, the former Olympic champion reflected on his recovery journey, his coaching change and the major competitions that lie ahead. The Indian star revealed that his injury troubles began even before the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where he had a forgettable outing. Despite not being fully fit, he decided to compete, a decision he now feels was not the right one. “I had some injuries before Tokyo, but I still decided to compete. Looking back, it was probably the wrong decision,” Neeraj said. The Diamond League meet in Doha will be his first competitive appearance since that fateful evening in Tokyo, which saw him concede his world championship title. According to Neeraj, the problems continued after the championship as he started to feel a discomfort in both his ankle and shoulder. He only resumed training around one and …

He added that the decision was taken in consultation with his team to reduce competitive intensity and prioritise training. “We feel it is in my best interest to skip long events away from home to allow for more dedicated training time,” he said, while also thanking the Grand Chess Tour organisers for accommodating his request. “Difficult to see how World C’ship could be held here” – Mia Blichfeldt after 2026 India Open exit

Less than a day after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) asserted that they are confident of hosting the 2026 BWF World Championships at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Delhi, Danish shuttler Mia Blichfeldt questioned the move on Friday. Blichfeldt, who suffered a Round of 16 exit at the 2026 India Open following a loss at the hands of Ratchanok Intanon, slammed the conditions at the tournament “unacceptable” and “highly unprofessional.” “The past few days in India have been tough – tougher than I honestly expected,” Blichfeldt wrote in a social media post. “I had mentally prepared myself for “the worst” once again, but the conditions surrounding us are simply unacceptable and highly unprofessional,” she added. Blichfeldt stressed that focusing on competing is difficult under such circumstances. “We are here to perform and to stay focused on our preparations, both on and off the court. Unfortunately, under these circumstances, it becomes extremely difficult to focus solely on competing and delivering our best performance,” she wrote, while sharing a series of pictures, which included an unhygienic hallway …

The Women’s World Rapid Championship 2025 in Doha ended in heartbreak for veteran Indian Koneru Humpy, who failed to defend her Rapid title and had to settle for bronze on Sunday. Entering the 11th and final round tied for first with Zhu Jiner and Aleksandra Goryachkina, the 38-year-old Humpy only needed a win against her 18-year-old compatriot Savitha Shri B to secure the championship outright after Zhu and Goryachkina had already drawn their games. Instead, Humpy faltered from a completely winning position and was forced to split the point, leaving the three-way deadlock intact at the top with each of them being undefeated throughout the event and scoring 8.5 points from 11 rounds.
