The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducted the rescheduled Common University Entrance Test-Undergraduate (CUET-UG) 2026 examination in two shifts at centres across the country and overseas. In Shift-I, the examination was held at 334 centres for 70,266 candidates. One foreign centre was operational and two overseas candidates appeared for the exam. No Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates were registered in this shift, the NTA source said. In Shift-II, the examination was conducted at 358 centres for 80,872 candidates. After the technical disruption that affected the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate 2026, the National Testing Agency (NTA) announced that candidates who were impacted will be provided another chance to take the exam. Earlier, the CUET 2026, conducted for admission to undergraduate programmes at universities across India, experienced delays at certain examination centres on Saturday because of a technical issue. Here’s what NTA said The NTA said in a post on X, “We know today’s unfortunate technical disruption caused distress for some CUET (UG) 2026 candidates. Candidates who did their Biometric Registration and were present at their examination centres today (i.e. 30.05.2026 in Shift-I), but couldn’t complete their examination due to this technical glitch, will get an opportunity for examination.” “TCS has reported that a technical glitch at their end delayed the commencement of CUET UG 2026 at some centres on Saturday. The applications for the exam began on March 1 and will be open till March 22. The agency officials said the exam dates are tentative and the detailed schedule will be announced later. The exam will be conducted in 13 languages — English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu. CUET-UG was introduced in 2022 to standardise admissions across central, state, and select private universities in India. Replacing multiple entrance exams, CUET-UG aims to provide a uniform assessment platform. The exam evaluates candidates on language skills, domain-specific subjects, and general aptitude, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to promote inclusivity and equal opportunities. The University Grants Commission (UGC) chief Jagadesh Kumar on Tuesday said that students will be allowed to appear for CUET-UG in any subject irrespective of subjects they studied in class 12. Kumar made the revelation while speaking to PTI. The UGC chief said that from 2025, students will be able to appear for maximum of five subjects in CUET-UG. “CUET-UG will only be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode from 2025. CUET-UG to be conducted in 63 subjects instead of 37 from 2025 session,” said Jagadesh Kumar. He further said that all CUET-UG exams to have uniform duration of 60 minutes, optional questions to be done away with. “Students will be able to appear for maximum of five subjects in CUET-UG from 2025.” The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses is set to undergo several changes in the 2025 edition following a review by an expert panel, according to UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar. CUET-UG: Delhi, NCR Cities Log Highest Number of Candidates Out of 13.5 Lakh Registrations This Year

The highest number of students out of at least 13.5 lakh, who have registered for the Common University Entrance Test, or CUET-UG, this year, are from Delhi. The total number of applicants, however, is lower this year as compared to the nearly 15 lakh students who applied last year. Still, the figure is higher than the debut edition of the test, for which 9.9 lakh candidates had registered. Delhi is followed by Noida and Greater Noida in the national capital region (NCR) in terms of number of candidates, UGC chairperson Prof M Jagadesh Kumar told News18. This year, the CUET-UG will be conducted between May 15 and 31 for admission to undergraduate courses across central universities in India.
