The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert warning of torrential rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds across several states on Monday as the southwest monsoon remains active over large parts of the country. According to the latest IMD bulletin, the next 14 hours are expected to be particularly critical, with heavy rain and severe weather likely to affect several regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said conditions are becoming increasingly favourable for the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala within the next two to three days. The weather system is also expected to advance into parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu and several areas of the Bay of Bengal during the same period. Meteorologists have attributed the expected monsoon advance to multiple weather systems, including upper-air cyclonic circulations over the Arabian Sea, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the Bay of Bengal. The districts likely to receive heavy rainfall include Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Tiruchirappalli, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Kanniyakumari.
