Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar made a pitch for “fairness in funds, voice and respect” for Southern states, which form the “engine of the Indian economy”, addressing the 31st meeting of the Southern Zonal Council at Mahabalipuram, chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah. Changes have been sought by the members on the extent of land to be retained by the BTC in Bengaluru, rent payable on the land and the tenure of lease. Resolutions in this regard were passed. In February 2026, the State Cabinet decided to allot 110 acres in the Kunigal Stud Farm, and set a two-year deadline from the date of handing over of the land to the Club to move out of Bengaluru.
