(File) Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has approached the Delhi High Court challenging the Lokpal order that allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a chargesheet against her within a month in the alleged cash-for-query case. In a November 12 full-bench decision, Lokpal invoked its powers and approved the sanction under relevant sections of the Lokpal Act for the CBI to prosecute Moitra and others. The authority asked the probe agency to file the chargesheet in court within four weeks, and also to submit a copy to the Lokpal, news agency ANI reported. The Lokpal has directed the probe agency to file the chargesheet within four weeks. The anti-graft body’s decision came after it held its full bench meeting on November 12 and gave a green signal to submit the chargesheet to the concerned court. The FIR registered by CBI Thursday against former TMC MP Mahua Moitra in connection with the alleged cash-for-query case also mentions businessman Darshan Hiranandani as an “accused”. On Saturday, multiple teams of the CBI had conducted searches at various premises linked to Moitra, across different locations in West Bengal. Moitra has been accused of accepting cash to ask questions on behalf of businessman and friend Hiranandani. In an interview to The Indian Express on October 27, Moitra admitted she gave her Parliament login and password details to Hiranandani but denied taking any cash from him, as alleged by Supreme Court advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai in his complaint to the CBI. More Trouble for Mahua Moitra as CBI to File FIR Under Corruption Act; Probe Report to Lokpal in 6 Months

The Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) is all set to register an FIR against former MP from Trinamool Congress (TMC) Mahua Moitra under the Prevention of Corruption Act for alleged quid pro quo with businessman Darshan Hiranandani. It is also likely to carry out searches at various locations connected to the former MP as part of its probe. The Lokpal has ordered CBI to register a case after prima facie finding enough ground to probe the charges against the former MP. “After careful evaluation and consideration of the entire material on record, there remains no doubt regarding the fact that the allegations levelled against the RPM, (Respondent Mahua Moitra), most of which are supported by cogent evidence, are extremely serious in nature, especially in view of the position held by her.
