DOGE is reportedly building a ‘master database’ of government information

DOGE is reportedly building a ‘master database’ of government information

The Committee has also received reports about troubling, fumbling efforts by DOGE to combine sensitive information held by SSA, the IRS, HHS, and other agencies into a single cross-agency master database. Improving how federal agencies share data to improve outcomes and customer service is a longstanding and bipartisan goal in Congress. Information obtained by the Committee, however, indicates that DOGE is carrying out its work in a manner that disregards important cybersecurity and privacy considerations, potentially in violation of the law. In an apparent attempt to sidestep network security controls, the Committee has learned that DOGE engineers have tried to create specialized computers for themselves that simultaneously give full access to networks and databases across different agencies. Such a system would pose unprecedented operational security risks and undermine the zero-trust cybersecurity architecture that prevents a breach at one agency from spreading across the government. Information obtained by the Committee also indicates that individuals associated with DOGE have assembled backpacks full of laptops, each with access to different agency systems, that DOGE staff is using to …

CISA’s Reversal Extends Support for CVE Database

CISA’s Reversal Extends Support for CVE Database

Image: CROCOTHERY/Adobe Stock The nonprofit organization MITRE, which maintains the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database, said on April 15 that the US government funding for its operations will expire without renewal; however, in a last-minute reversal announced the morning of April 16, CISA said it has extended support for the database. At the same time, CVE Board members have founded the CVE Foundation, a nonprofit not affiliated with the US federal government, to maintain the CVE program. The CVE program, which has been in place since 1999, is an essential way to report and track vulnerabilities. Many other cybersecurity resources, such as Microsoft’s Patch Tuesday update and report, refer to CVE numbers to identify flaws and fixes. Organizations called CVE Numbering Authorities are associated with MITRE and authorized to assign CVE numbers. “CVE underpins a huge chunk of vulnerability management, incident response, and critical infrastructure protection efforts,” wrote Casey Ellis, founder of crowdsourced cybersecurity hub Bugcrowd, in an email to TechRepublic. “A sudden interruption in services has the very real potential to bubble up …

Staff training begins after BJP govt okays Ayushman Bharat scheme for Delhi, work on to build database | Delhi News

Hours after the BJP-led Delhi government cleared the implementation of the Centre’s flagship Ayushman Bharat insurance scheme in the city, training has started for the staff who will generate the golden cards and those who will work to pre-authorise medical procedures. The National Health Authority, along with the state government, is also working to create the beneficiary database. As per the scheme, an estimated 6.54 lakh of the poorest families in Delhi will receive health coverage up to Rs 5 lakh. Importantly, 4.5 lakh families with people over the age of 70 — some of whom may already be eligible for cover as per their economic status — will also benefit. The Delhi government will provide an additional cover of Rs 5 lakh to those eligible, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said after the Cabinet meeting on Thursday evening during which the implementation of the scheme was okayed. DeepSeek’s Database With Chat History and Sensitive Information Leaked, Says Cybersecurity Firm

DeepSeek’s Database With Chat History and Sensitive Information Leaked, Says Cybersecurity Firm

DeepSeek’s dataset might have suffered public exposure, claimed a cybersecurity research firm. As per a report, a publicly accessible ClickHouse database belonging to DeepSeek was discovered which allowed full control over its database operations. Additionally, the exposure is also said to contain a large volume of sensitive information including chat history, secret keys, log times, and backend details. It is unclear whether the firm reported the matter to the Chinese AI firm, and if the exposed dataset has been taken down. DeepSeek’s Dataset Might Have Suffered a Breach In a blog post, cybersecurity firm Wiz Research revealed that it found a completely open and unauthenticated dataset that contained highly sensitive information about the DeepSeek platform. The exposed information is said to pose a potential risk to both the AI firm as well as the end users. The cybersecurity firm claimed that it intended to assess DeepSeek’s external security to identify any potential vulnerabilities, given the rising popularity of the AI platform. The researchers started by mapping any Internet-facing subdomains but did not find anything that …

DeepSeek Locked Down Public Database Access That Exposed Chat History

DeepSeek Locked Down Public Database Access That Exposed Chat History

On Jan. 29, U.S.-based Wiz Research announced it responsibly disclosed a DeepSeek database previously open to the public, exposing chat logs and other sensitive information. DeepSeek locked down the database, but the discovery highlights possible risks with generative AI models, particularly international projects. DeepSeek shook up the tech industry over the last week as the Chinese company’s AI models rivaled American generative AI leaders. In particular, DeepSeek’s R1 competes with OpenAI o1 on some benchmarks. How did Wiz Research discover DeepSeek’s public database? In a blog post disclosing Wiz Research’s work, cloud security researcher Gal Nagli detailed how the team found a publicly accessible ClickHouse database belonging to DeepSeek. The database opened up potential paths for control of the database and privilege escalation attacks. Inside the database, Wiz Research could read chat history, backend data, log streams, API Secrets, and operational details. The team found the ClickHouse database “within minutes” as they assessed DeepSeek’s potential vulnerabilities. “We were shocked, and also felt a great sense of urgency to act fast, given the magnitude of the …

10,000 human genomes database launched

10,000 human genomes database launched

India has completed and made available a year-long compilation of 10,000 human genomes from India, representing 83 population groups, or about 2% of the country’s 4,600 population groups as a database. This collection will serve a template of future investigations into disease and drug therapy. This ‘Genome India’ database, as it is known, will now be available to researchers across the world for investigations and is housed at the Indian Biological Data Centre (IBDC), in Faridabad, Haryana. A first analysis of the genomes estimates around 27 million low-frequency (or relatively rare) variants, with 7 million of them not found in similar reference databases around the world. Certain population groups show higher frequencies of alleles, or different versions of the same gene. Over the last two decades, many countries have created databases of the genomes of their population — for a variety of purposes including estimating disease risks, adverse drug reactions, establishing genealogy and DNA-profiling databases. However, a major focus of the Indian reference genomes is to have researchers study diseases. “The discoveries from Genome India …
