This 55% expansion in staff strength comes as DDA prepares to accelerate major initiatives, including implementation of the land pooling policy, in the coming months. Lieutenant Governor (LG) and DDA Chairman Taranjit Singh Sandhu handed over appointment letters to 1,647 newly recruited employees at the ‘Niyukti Samaroh’ on Thursday. Addressing the recruits, the LG stressed the weight of their responsibilities. “Delhi, as the national capital, holds a unique position where the expectations from the governance system are both high and diverse. N Saravana Kumar to be new DDA Vice-Chairman | Delhi News

Senior IAS officer N Saravana Kumar on Wednesday took charge as the Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the agency announced. Kumar is a 2000-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre. Before joining the DDA, he served as the Principal Secretary of the Department of Food and Consumer Protection in Bihar. He has held positions in several departments, including Communications and IT, Law and Justice, Education, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Rural Development, and Food and Consumer Protection. He has also served as District Magistrate in multiple districts in Bihar, including Patna. During his time in the state government, he was awarded for his work in disaster management during floods and received four letters of appreciation from the Election Commission of India during elections. A massive fire broke out in a five-storey Delhi Development Authority (DDA) complex in Jhandewalan on Tuesday afternoon, which was doused after a few hours. While no one was injured in the blaze, it damaged at least two dozen vehicles, officers in the fire department and police said. Fire officials said that the blaze was doused by 4.30pm on Tuesday. Five years after issuing an order for freeing the Yamuna floodplains from encroachments, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) recently pulled up the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and the Forest Department over non-compliance. The tribunal bench comprising chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava observed, “After that order of the Tribunal, more than five years have passed, but till now the order has not been complied with.” In the 22-km stretch between Wazirabad and Okhla in Delhi where Yamuna flows, the DDA and other agencies were directed to remove encroachments in the floodplains in a 2019 order passed by the NGT and an April order last year by the Delhi High Court. Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Wednesday directed the DDA to begin the process of surveying and identifying potential sites for the development of ropeways/cableways across the Yamuna, a statement from Raj Niwas said. The LG has instructed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to submit a preliminary report on this matter within a month, it added. Once operational, the project will run at fixed hours from morning until night, with cable cars that can carry approximately 50 passengers each across the Yamuna. The DDA, which owns the floodplains, will select sites near metro stations on both banks of the river where the installations will be set up, without encroaching on or concretising the floodplain, the statement said.
