Payal Nag, who saw Sheetal Devi’s video and started Para Archery, defeats her idol for gold medal | Sport-others News

4 min readNew DelhiApr 4, 2026 11:03 PM IST Quadruple amputee archer Payal Nag produced a show at the World Archery Para Series in Bangkok to defeat her decorated teammate and current World number one Sheetal Devi in the final. India finished at the top in the competition with seven gold medals. 18-year-old Payal, who lost all four limbs in an electrocution accident at a very early age, won 139-136 against Sheetal in the compound women’s final. This was Payal’s first win over Sheetal in an international tournament after she had defeated her at the Para Archery Nationals in Jaipur last year. Playing only in her first senior International tournament, Payal displayed immaculate composure in the finals to take down her experienced compatriot. She started strongly with a perfect 10 and took a lead of 27-25 after the opening round. However, Sheetal fought back in the second round to make it 54-54 with two 10s. However, when Sheetal faltered in the third with a score of 26, Payal shot a 10 on her second arrow …

Give Gautam Gambhir and Indian Test team time but home defeats point to larger problem, says Yuvraj Singh | Cricket News

Give Gautam Gambhir and Indian Test team time but home defeats point to larger problem, says Yuvraj Singh | Cricket News

4 min readUpdated: Apr 3, 2026 08:15 PM IST The Indian team deserves more time to get into the groove in Test cricket considering it remains a relatively inexperienced side but their losses at home shows the players need to play more domestic cricket, said former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh. India have been on a stunning run in white-ball cricket, winning two T20 World Cups and a Champions Trophy on the trot. However, that run has coincided with India’s dominance in Test cricket at home ending in spectacular fashion, suffering whitewashes to New Zealand and South Africa. “A few of our senior players retired and in India, for tackling spin and winning Tests, you have to play more domestic cricket,” said Yuvraj on Sports Tak. “We are not getting out to spinners who are absolutely world class. They are not in the same league as Shane Warne, Muralidharan, Harbhajan, Ashwin or Anil bhai. We need to improve our game against spin and that will happen only when we play more domestic games.” Yuvraj said that he …

Jayawardene on MI’s first-match defeats since 2013

Jayawardene on MI’s first-match defeats since 2013

4 min readUpdated: Mar 29, 2026 12:39 AM IST Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene believes there is only one way to break the team’s 13-year opening-day ‘hoodoo’ in the IPL: play a good game of cricket. Speaking on Saturday, Jayawardene insisted that despite failing to win a season opener since 2012, the team’s preparation remains focused on execution. MI, the perennial slow-starters, last won their opening match in the IPL in April 2012, when they beat Chennai Super Kings by eight wickets. As they gear up to take on three-time winners Kolkata Knight Riders here on Sunday, the very first question Jayawardene took was whether MI would break that jinx this time around. “It is the elephant in the room but there is no way for us to prepare differently,” Jayawardene told reporters at the Wankhede Stadium ahead of MI’s training session. “If you look at the season that I was involved in, we had close matches, we lost. I think I have spoken to the boys about the intensity being there for that …

Gregory Gaultier, Anahat Singh’s coach, on what it took to win Worlds gold after four stinging final defeats

Gregory Gaultier, Anahat Singh’s coach, on what it took to win Worlds gold after four stinging final defeats

Gregory Gaultier won four silver medals at the squash World Open (Championships) over 10 years, before he struck his first gold. In an illustrious career spanning 22 long years, starting out as a French prodigy, he ended with nine Worlds medals, including four bronze. Now, tasked with guiding young Indian talent Anahat Singh, the deep-thinking Frenchman brings a unique understanding of losing from winning positions and, learning from those defeats and never letting go of the ambition, before the gold is finally nailed. The 43-year-old would reckon ‘choke’ is a very English word, and in a very Albert Camus-fashion embraces the absurdity of keeping on losing, while keeping on wanting to win, in a way that only sport could quantify. “Today, if I flashback that first hard loss of a Worlds final in 2006, I’ll ask myself, ‘Gregory, if you had won that final, would life have turned out the same? Would I have done it all’?” he wonders, in an interaction before heading to India for the JSW Open in Mumbai, where Anahat will …

Visitors concede the ODI series with successive defeats

Visitors concede the ODI series with successive defeats

Not the ideal start for the reigning world champion Indian women’s ODI team as they suffer a series defeat in their first series since last year’s World Cup win. The team conceded a 5-wicket defeat in the second ODI match against the hosts Australia in the ongoing multi-format tour at Bellerive Oval in Hobart on Friday. Georgia Voll’s explosive century made a meal out of India’s decent-looking total of 251, which Australia chased comfortably with 14.5 overs to spare. India had a cautious start to the innings with both Pratika Rawal and Smriti Mandhana struggling to keep up the run rate, but they slowly built a good partnership of 78. But at the time of acceleration, India lacked control and lost four of its wickets within the next 25 runs, putting the pressure back on the team. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur tried to stretch the innings with a couple of good partnerships, first with Richa Ghosh and then Kashvee Gautam. She completed her second consecutive half-century and somehow helped India to find a fighting total and …

Tavleen Singh writes: Entitlement defeats valid opposition

6 min readFeb 8, 2026 06:41 AM IST First published on: Feb 8, 2026 at 06:41 AM IST When you are the great-grandson of a prime minister, the grandson of a prime minister, the son of a prime minister and a de facto prime minister, it must be hard to accept being just Leader of the Opposition. And this after failing to get enough seats in two general elections to occupy this relatively humble post. So, I understand Rahul Gandhi’s loathing of the usurper who has deprived him of what he seems to have grown up believing was his inheritance. It does not help his case to sound sulky and petulant about this. Why does he not understand yet that when he insults Narendra Modi, he also insults the Prime Minister? What shocked me most of the many things that he said last week outside Parliament House was that the Prime Minister was ‘compromised’ and this is why he had been forced into the trade deal with the United States. This is not the sort …
